A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

So what we're going to get is a list of foreign shit and a few token things from Scotland, Wales, and the south east.

Whenever stories like this pop up, I can't help but think about all the traditions we've lost, largely thanks to the deliberate practice of repudiation and mockery by "polite society". We've had it drummed into us that our culture is inferior, laughable, crude, and primitive. Morris for instance, along with everything tangential to it (Rushcarts and the like), is treated as twee and "quaint", and not worthy of respect. And racist, if blacking up was involved. The fact is, it's a remnant of the rituals practiced by our ancient ancestors, before combat or before a hunt. It shares continuity with similar cultural practices all across Europe, though it is uniquely English. Anything to do with the traditional marking of the seasons is gone, as well as anything that brought men and women together - or anything that kept them apart for their own sanity.

Any practice that united a small community has been turned into an object of derision or just quietly erased from our culture, leaving a few surface details and practices divorced from any coherent underlying structure. We don't even get Easter Gardens in churches any more. That's something I used to help make when I was a kid, but it just doesn't happen now.
Apparently the people who actually live there hate the carnival due to the crime and shit

It should be allowed to die

They're all union mongs who are getting exactly for what they voted for. With some added rape gangs for good measure. Inshallah.
The bin men are an order of magnitude more valuable to society than most laptop jockeys. The cleaners and drivers and delivery men and carers and arse wipers keep things running. They should be paid fairly. They can’t afford to lose 6-8k, neither could I.
The council should have been allowed to draw a line, not pay back pay and just redraw the pay bands in a way that worked to go forward with.
Their average salary is about 22k, but pro rata they're on closer to an average of 30k a year, and with those second jobs they often bring in closer to 40k.
I wouldnt do that job for 22k. And I dont think many would. They aren’t overpaid. It’s a nasty job, out in all weathers. If they have second jobs they work them too. 40k sounds like a lot but these days it doesn’t go so far.
Totally agree about the morris.

Get the binmen to do jobs like mine then. Let's how quickly the entire financial system collapses.

Counterpoint: they work short days and short weeks, and all have second jobs. Their average salary is about 22k, but pro rata they're on closer to an average of 30k a year, and with those second jobs they often bring in closer to 40k. They aren't wanting for money. I don't begrudge them any of this, but it remains a fact that even with the wage cut, they'll be compensated very well for their work.
Imagine excusing an 8k paycut because "they work a second job". They shouldn't have to work a second job and you must be detached from the current state of play for thinking 40k (with 40% automatic tax on the second job) is 'not wanting for money'. Don't get me wrong, they aren't starving, but 40k a year is surviving, not living.
Not to mention, when people stop picking up the rubbish, the place turns to shit.
The reason Birmingham is cutting their wages is because the council lost that equal pay dispute the other year. They're re-grading everyone to avoid suddenly having to give half the workforce a 9k p/a raise. Part of the dispute is because the bin men wanted an equivalent raise to match the parity raise being given to equal grade workers, when that parity raise was introduced in order to reduce the amount the bin workers wages would have to be cut.
The reason Birmingham council is cutting wages is because they're skint from paying all of the niggers and pakis that have moved into hotels and how much social workers and police needed for the shit hole that is that city and its' surrounding areas.
£5.5 million A DAY spent on JUST accommodation for ILLEGAL migrants and we're going to begrudge a filthy, crap job the equal pay that they deserve?
I wouldn't do that job for less than £60k a year, so imo, they're getting a bargain.

I've worked in unionised plants where the union are useless, corrupt wankers who suck managerial cock. I've worked in places where the union were the last bastion of defence against useless, power-hungry, uneducated managerial wankers who saw themselves as kings and tried to treat the workers like shit. Unions, like a social health service are great when done well and shit when corrupt.

I'm actually pretty educated but the rest is true.
In my experience, 90% of managers I've worked with, or who have reported to me, are fucking useless, power hungry and have been promoted incorrectly or for reasons of nepotism, fear or because there's no-one else willing to, which is a red flag for serious issues within the factory.
Sometimes because they haven't been given the resources to succeed or explained what makes a good manager good. Those situations are easily solved and are rewarding when people succeed after given the correct instruction.

The other 10% are often magnificent and are a pleasure to learn from and work with.

Low productivity and high waste are directly tied to useless management and as a man who loves success, high productivity and low waste, I enjoy, more than I should, sending useless, bullying, high-on-their-own-fart managers out the door.

They couldn’t do my job either, but that’s not really the point. The point is that we have a lot of people who do jobs we find to be dirty or unpleasant but they’re vital jobs. If all the people who do my kind of job disappear, nobody’s getting any new drugs. That’s not great, but my point is that the average person notice one hell of a lot more if their bins are in a pile of rats than if there’s no new genetic therapies, maybe, perhaps, in ten years time.

The reason Birmingham council is cutting wages is because they're skint from paying all of the niggers and pakis that have moved into hotels and how much social workers and police needed for the shit hole that is that city and its' surrounding areas.

And the inbreeding.
A huge proportion of children born in places like Birmingham and Bradford are from ‘first cousin marriages.’ It’s been pointed out here before that that’s just what’s admitted to, and that a lot are half sibling type arrangements.
Last week I was curious and had a back of the envelope go at working out what three generations of first cousin marriage would do and I think it leaves the offspring as related as siblings. A lot of those children will need intensive medical intervention, and lifelong medical care, taxis to school if they go, or day placement type stuff. and their entire families seem to end up as carers on benefits. Ten grand a year has been touted in here before for a single kid to get to school or day placement in a taxi. That’s more than one of our bin men is getting cut.
The councils are spending money like water on stuff like migrant hotels, translators, DEI bullshit, and endless care for the inbred, and they’re cutting it from places that society cannot manage. Sanitary stuff isn’t optional.

Can we please bring back the death penalty for specific cases please? It'd free up a lot of room in the prisons, especially for pakis like this.

Three prison officers have been attacked by Hashem Abedi, the brother of the Manchester Arena bomber, a source has told the BBC.

The officers sustained life-threatening injuries on Saturday including burns, scalds and stab wounds in the attack at HMP Frankland in County Durham, the Prison Officers' Association said.

Abedi threw hot cooking oil over the officers and used "home made weapons" to stab them, the organisation alleged.
The Prison Service confirmed three officers have been treated in hospital after an attack by a prisoner, adding police were investigating.

Would I like the death penalty? Most certainly as they get what they deserve and it saves us money. But would I want our current government (all of them not just Labour) have the power to put people down permanently? Certainly not.

HMP Frankland in county durham, a maximum security prison, segregates prisoners who refuse to convert to Islam, because the pakis are murdering those who refuse to convert.
They used to segregate the islamic terrorist extremists, now, for ease, they segregate those who won't join the gang.

Whose side are they on? Obviously the islamists.

What reality do we live in?

Allah's will has more legitimacy to current day criminals than His Majesties Prison service, I suppose.
I expect this will get to be a regular occurrence, too.

The more I read about Britain, the more I get the sense some great big dam will break sooner than later, and it'll be chaos for a good long while.
There's local elections coming up soon That's either going to scare the establishment parties into either pretending they were based all along or they're going to start arresting EVERYONE.

I know that nothing every happens, but they're freeing up spaces in prison for a reason.

A cousin of mine works in the prisons, and from the way he talks about it; we may be dumping people out of the prisons purely because we cannot afford to keep them in anymore. Half of them are barely functioning wrecks - the prisons, not the prisoners mind - and the rest don't have enough staff. It may be because it's labour and they shit the bed far harder than the cons do, but it does seem like the UK is nosediving faster than ever before.

My wife worked in a halfway house type place for prisoners who were released from prison but not ready to go back into the real world while they 'adjusted'. From what she used to tell me, about 90% of them went back inside after getting their early 50% served release. Usually drug or drink related offences since they just get straight back on it as son as they get an ounce of freedom.

UK prisons have been overpopulated and understaffed for a long time and I think it's a lot worse than 'they' let on. Screws get paid fuck all for the job they do so nobody decent wants to do it. They are just breeding grounds for radicalisation on both sides, yes islamists but also I suspect chucking everyone who has the wrong opinion on black people in there as well is going to generate a lot more right wing extremism.

The Birmingham strike thread would suggest it may be a bit worse.
How much of that is Birmingham, though? Where I'm staying, I feel like the locals would take it upon themselves to organize a trip to the landfill for the street each week. Guarantee that the busybody woman a few doors down the hill would make a rota.
They could earn a good amount of money with those HGV licences but that would involve hard work
I'm actually pretty educated but the rest is true.
Never before have I seen quite the illustration of a lack of correlation between education and intelligence. If I hadn't talked with you in the weightlifting thread, I'd assume you were a woman

People have been saying this about China for decades. England won't ever fall, it will just get asymptotically worse and more disgusting. It's the DSP of countries.

I've know a few people who were a bit naughty and had a bit of a long holiday at His Majesty's Pleasure. They mainly complained that it was pretty boring and the food was dull.

All of them (except one) turned their lives around the day they stepped out of prison. This was a good decade ago now, so god only knows how much things have fallen apart since then. Except the guy who stayed a wrong 'un and is probably going to die in prison, now I don't know anyone with a chance of going back these days.
