A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

There are around 209,000 farms in the UK. These changes will at most affect 462 of them, aka 0.2%
Quite apart from anything else, you've ignored or misunderstood that that figure is per year.

Tell me, would you still be against farmers if you hadn't had breakfast this morning?

I’m trying to maintain a high protein diet at the moment and it’s fucking expensive. Can we not piss off farmers things and somehow make them pay less tax?

Actually go to the supermarket and look at the vegetables and see where the location is, it's not the UK or even close by.
Tell me you don’t live near any farms, without telling me. If you stop being a dumb fuck for two seconds and think, the fact we import so much is terrible already.

What do you think will happen if we ever go in a war, with blockades and rations?
We want more food security not less.

And this is not just about what you see immediately in the vegetable section at Tesco. Where you do think the ingredients, in bread, cereals, other dried come from? The sky?

This is the "quartering" part of "hanged, drawn and quartered." Or at least one way they carried out that part of the classical punishment.
Well the Ukranians skipped the hanging and drawing and bound the living and conscious guy to horses that they then whipped to run apart.

Realised something more that amusses about Clarkson’s interview at the Farmers protest.

The BBC women seems to miss that Clarkson has rnough money to be able to protect himself. As do the other rich farmers. So all it will do is take it away from farmers that aren’t and put it into the hands of those that are rich enough to avoid it.

The very opposite thing that Labour claims it was intended to do.

Sometimes the rich being able to ‘abuse’ a system is the price we have to pay.

You’ll note they aten’t stopping people from securing themselves from being hit by this if they can afford it. Which is what they would be doing if they were honest.

does anything about this current Labour government make sense?
Well, in the sense of them being good stewards of land and people, no, but if you look at it that they’re speed running us to communist hell then probably yes
Liz Truss and Kami Kwaze were sacked for less.
Liz was done dirty. I become more convinced by the day
All my joints are on fucking fire this morning and I can't really move, so I'm guessing the microchips are quite big this year?
Try tuning the antenna

Just poisting this because I find the host and the comments so amazingly retarded it is funny.
James O'Brien is probably the single most perfect manifestation of the parasitic urban bugman that I've ever seen. It's not just that he's ignorant, it's that he takes an immeasurable sense of pride in his ignorance and believes it makes him morally superior to his perceived social inferiors.

He's the type that thinks ordering organic low carbon produce from Waitrose makes him better than you and I, while at the exact same time being incapable of understanding at a conceptual level where that food came from or how it got there. Then to add insult to injury he looks down his nose at people who do as being beneath him for not believing in the infallibility of 'modernity'.

Rumours floating around that Reeves narrowly avoided being fired from a previous job (probably HBOS) for fiddling expenses. Trying to find a source.

Saw this video last night that’s really got me thinking about James O’brien the wider LBC lefties.

What years in particular? There was a period when expenses where there to be fiddled then everything got boring.

2009, allegedly.

Here's what I have so far. Someone archived this tweet five days ago.

This is the original LinkedIn post from the screenshot. (archive)

The guy's work history checks out; he worked at Bank of Scotland from 2000, through its merger with Halifax to become HBOS, and the subsequent acquisition by Lloyds, and left in 2010 to become a consultant of some sort. He's retired and living in Portugal now. Claims he tried to contact journalists about this when Reeves was appointed, but nobody was interested.

E: People joke about labour speed-running everything, but they've taken less than five months to reach a level of graft of corruption that the tories only managed after five years of consistent effort.
