A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Som NHS trusts are digitised and are OK but most use fucking paper in the year of christ 2024.

With the IT issue, it's a staffing issue too. The DWP and HMRC are notoriously underfunded with most people in employ are responsible forup to 20,000 clients if not more. It's a system that is a paper tiger, it says it can do one thing but it is a needle in a haystack. As for Rachel Reeves saying AI to track stuff. I don't have high confidence in it due to the flimsy framework.

Was it the UK government who used stacked Excel spreadsheets organized using columns instead of rows as a database for COVID records? I remember there being a story where a bunch of data was lost because of some quirks with how Excel handles rows and columns.

:story:

Not a great track record with technical competence in issues that matter.
It may have happened more than once, but the story I'm thinking of had them losing data because for some reason they were using the old file format that limited you to 65,536 rows.

After the kid went stabby, the parents were taken into protective security pretty quickly. That doesn't usually happen unless the family are in big danger, which, at the time, they weren't.
I wonder what spooked the spooks to hide the spooks?

Considering the riots, I’m absolutely sure someone would have tried something and so you’d just want to clear them out so there is not a fight between the knife wielding horde and the locals.

The problem with UK IT is simply penny pinching to avoid spending on licenses, UKGov even having Microsoft extend support for one of the Windows versions by 18 months while being discontinued for the public though no surprise the same contractor for implementing it was the same who had the contract for the Post Office systems that were fucking everything up and they've only admitted to in the last year.

To add to that the place they are from is tiny (they're on the outskirts of Southport) and the diversity makeup in the area means they would likely have been easy to spot.
I have many critiques but the police deciding the parents needed to be removed from the area fast I can understand.

Are these videos mirrored anywhere else? This seems like one of those channels that suddenly gets 3 copyright strikes in 30 milliseconds and wiped off YouTube without a trace.
You are right. But he’s been banned multiple times on Tik Tok and YouTube. He always resurfaces though eventually been following him off and on for a couple of years.

I've got a copy of everything he's uploaded so far, but not placed them anywhere to mirror. It's rather a lot for the farms, though I could certainly compress it much more than it currently is. Not sure what Null's feelings would be about uploading so much.

I'd say "torrent plz" but that reveals your IP so idk.
Maybe i2p torrent?

I'm pretty sure you can ask Null to host stuff like that for you. I can't find the post where he talks about it anymore though.

Just a random little thing, but worth a thought. They used ID cards to plan who to kill. For example patients in a hospital had their id cards checked and if you were Tutsi it was onto the kill list.
Anyway, not terribly relevant to the thread, but… Something I always think about when our fair and balanced government demands lists, databases and IDs. There are rarely nice reasons to be put in a list.
As you were
I was widely mocked by friends and relations for being loudly and adamantly opposed to the inclusion of the religion (eventually joined by sexuality and other things the state has no legitimate interest to know) in the census data.
"Hur dur what do you think they are going to do with it" Within living memory, it was used in Western Europe to, oh, find where the Jews lived and send them to the fucking death camps.
So, you know, there's that.
"Hur dur that couldn't happen here" I doubt anyone living peacefully in early 1930s Amsterdam thought it could happen to them too, but Anne Frank is still fucking dead. People this happened to are not even all dead yet, they are still bearing living witness, and the retards of the general population still refuse to believe that what has been done once can easily be done again.
The state never has any legitimate interest in knowing where any particular, named, identified, members of any faith, sexuality, or ethnic group live. None.
The government does not fucking need to know where you are unless they have a reasonable belief that you should be surveilled for public protection, and they should be made to go and get a fucking warrant for that.
So yes, I still write Jedi on the form. Yes, this doesn't really accomplish anything, and is childish. But at least it grants me the tiny satisfaction that if and when the state decides to round up People Like Me (for any given value of Like Me), I didn't fucking directly hand myself in.
And I will not carry a fucking card that 'proves who I am' to any rando fuck that asks for it. Get to fuck. It is my inalienable right to travel freely without state harassment or compulsory identification, assuming I am harming no one. If I get on the bus and pay cash it is precisely because I do not want to leave a handy data breadcrumb trail of where I am going and what I am doing at any given time.
I am not an endangered golden eagle and do not need to be electronically tagged at all times to protect me from predation. (Like that has ever protected any woman or child as it is. Everyone always forgets Milly Dowler phoned home minutes before she was kidnapped and murdered.)
"If you'e nothing to hide you've nothing to fear!" The modern history of Europe teaches us a clear hard lesson: you don't know what it is you have to have to hide, so you don't know what you have to fear. The government will always want all the data it can on its populace to secure its hold over them. Don't fucking help them for Christ's sake.

All the videos are still up on YouTube for now so nothing stops anybody grabbing them from there currently. But I'm happy to make them available if someone wants me to and has somewhere for them. Be it null's largesse or anything else.

You don’t even need to go that far back. As a younger woman I had a housemate from Sarajevo. She was very matter of fact about it, but hearing her stories was an eye opener. People who had more or less just gotten on as neighbours killing each other. People rounded up and put in jails and camps where terrible things happened.
Also Rwanda. Well within living memory.
