A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Reeves says potholes on roads are a reminder of "our failure to invest as a nation".

She promises a £500m increase for road maintenance next year to deliver on the commitment to fix an additional one million potholes each year.
£500 will not fix a pothole. Closing the streets off to do that work will cost more than that.

Those changes in acquiring more beds will do shit, its staff issues and not beds. You have to pay doctors and nurses more and have competitive qualifications to keep them in. Nurses are not trained in Pharmocolgy for example.

The budget doesn't appear as bad as first thought or warned about. Bait and switch or just a decent budget?

Either way, being a contractor hasn't been this beneficial in nigh on a decade.

You know the M stand for Million. £500 Million increase for roadworks.
I did think about clarifying my maths but I went to the gym instead because I wanted to burn off my opinion of the budget :)
That's 500 a hole.
MP's expenses brought up again
It's a joke about paying for prostitutes. Which would be funnier were it not for the fact that we've had MPs write their drugs off as expenses and employ their drug dealer son.

Ok so what's the damage? Has Labour destroyed the country for the forth time this week?
Still processing it. Looks very bad for capital gains and inheritance tax. As long as you’re a benefit scrounge and don’t work it seems to be fine. If you work or employ people or farm then you’re fucked.
It's less bad than was rumoured
You know when people pitch something really really bad and then slip you something just bad and you breathe a sigh of relief because it’s not AS bad and take it anyway? That’s probably happened here. The ‘leaks’ will have been deliberately planted to create this effect. It is still bad.
Are you not looking forward to your pints becoming 1p cheaper?
No, because the increase in staff costs will get passed on

Did I hear her say something about a 20% tax on agricultural land? That’s really, really bad. They want farmers to sell up.
Another budget that fucks the working middle.
Holy fuck, no extension of the income tax bracket freeze. They did something right.
Beyond 2028 if I heard right. Which means nothing because they’ll be four years down the line and can change it easily. For now, during a period of massive inflation, that fiscal drag still happens.

The BBC doing BBC things again: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyv8y68e25o, https://archive.is/jwJYJ ("Budget: 'I can't afford to leave home on £1,500 a month'")

So out of 8 people chosen completely at random, we have a gay, a TIM, and a non-binary gypsy. What are the odds?
Interested that one says their mortgage repayment has increased by 30%, whilst another states theirs has increased by 60%.

How is this possible? I know mortgage interest rates increased a few %, but not 30 to 60 %.

Labour may have been smart enough to keep away from the benefit scroungers, likely to avoid a poll tax moment, who for some reason still make up a large part of their voting demographic for some reason (I'll vote red till I'm dead imma right?). On the other hand it seems that they aimed their crosshairs at the middle class on this one with all the additional taxes and increases.

The 1p reduced tax on pints is amazingly pointless with just how little money it saves and all the other taxes pubs are currently having to deal with on top of the extra wages these pubs will now have to pay out to staff.

But my one wish is the remaining farmers of Britain load up their tractors, go down to the nearest town hall and unload all the manure they can onto the nearest civil servant.

I’m just hoping every union member’s job get automated and they have to suck cocks for cash.
Great - just what we need. Unionised cock-suckers.
Either way, being a contractor hasn't been this beneficial in nigh on a decade.
How so, if I may ask? I take it they still haven't done anything to sort out the Gordian Knot that is IR35!

The Liberal Democrat head congratulated her on that while slobbering over the budget too. Pathetic. Kwasi should transition and go on long diatribes with the usual media sources how triggering it was for her to listen to Rachel describe herself as the first female chancellor, in between bigoted remarks about Kwasi's own time as the first trans, black, female chancellor.

Also for something to keep in mind in all of this Labour also want charities to be more openly political. Which will mean even more taxpayer money going to them, they just won't admit that as part of the budget.
