A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Reeves being prepped as a sacrificial lamb in 3, 2...

It is clearly obvious that Starmer is trying to recruit a group of sycophants. People keep saying Reeves is one of them, but I disagree. He has laid no groundwork for her to be saved. She will do her budget and then be Ceseared, she must know it or is so incredibly fucking stupid but hey I guess it's option 2.

He is for some reason afraid of Angela though because she is being gassed up with public duties to give her more power and occupy her. It is almost like if you build on sand, you'll get fucked eventually.

Rayner has enough support within the party to coup him and take over. She also probably has the dirt on what he got up to at Lord Alli's place.

He wants to install one of his cronies in, a classic commie move but I don't think it will stick. Trump has already aired his disdain for him and if he pisses off the US there will be a lot of movement behind the scenes to fuck with him.

Losing a Chancellor is big but she is so unpopular people want her out including unions and policy boards.

I'd be surprised. Losing a Chancellor is a hard blow for a PM to recover from.
Machiavelli loved Cesare Borgia. He told the story of how Cesare told a commander to take control of the town by any means necessary.

The commander went on a murder and pillaging spree so any sort of resistance was dead or taxed so heavily they had no money to buy arms.

Cesare arrived in the town, arrested the commander, had him sawn in half and displayed in the town square. He then reduced taxes a bit and held a festival. The inhabitants at this point welcomed Cesare as a liberator.

I’m wondering if Starmer is smart enough to do that with Reeves?

Rayner has that weird womanthink were she’s spent a good portion of her life making terrible life choices and thinking that makes her an expert on life.

There’s no way that’s her real voice either. She northern’s it up to appeal to spastics. I bet if I was to sit down with her to discuss her money she’d drop that and speak like a middle class woman.

There's so much to look into in Angela Rayners past, like how she managed to get the council house in stockport in the 90's, the house she later went on to rent out then sell. She portays herself as a former care worker, but in reality she was a Unison hack, one of the unions that in the 1990's adopted a very interesting industrial relations model for councils. Where they would look after a core group of 'long standing members' while at the same time giving councils the nod and wink, to start outsourcing and using agency workers.

Her wikipedia article is a fucking joke, lots of outrage over the media supposedly making an issue of her crossing and uncrossing her legs in parliament (which only a handful of outlets did) none about her previous comments about her 'ginger growler'.

Was it Unison who during the equal pay disputes got women working at Labour councils to take tiny payouts but fought for massive payouts in Tory, Libdem, and SNP controlled councils?

Just a reminder, kids, that unions aren’t your friend just like you’re employer isn’t.

But did she ever work at McDonalds?

I think it was more complicated than that, in councils where they never hived off bin collections, pest control, street sweeping etc, jobs that were overwhelmingly male, and long term union members. Then Unison didn't push so hard on the issue out of gender pay differentials.

There's always been a pecking order within unions, not just union staff but members. UNISON and USDAW are the worst for it. I have a suspician that Rayner made herself popular within Unison not just for the 'ginger growler' but for being able to manage care workers, so that the union could concentrate on who really mattered, the white collar office staff on £60k a year, constantly on sick leave.
