A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Her wikipedia article is a fucking joke, lots of outrage over the media supposedly making an issue of her crossing and uncrossing her legs in parliament (which only a handful of outlets did) none about her previous comments about her 'ginger growler'.
That's one thing that really fucked me off about her.

I remember when the "allegation" happened that she was trying to do a Basic Instinct leg cross on Boris to distract him. And I was furious. Boris is a fucking pervert and it's classic for that cunt that his supporters would frame a woman as being some sort of distracting seductress. Repulsive.

It turned out the whole story boiled over from Oor Ange literally joking about doing that to distract Boris, which got out to the journalist. And I felt like a stupid bitch for feeling bad for her.

I felt stupid for believing her because it sounded very likely of them.

Then I got angry because, knowing she was the source of the comment, she went on a publicity tirade about how these sort of misogynistic remarks are exactly what she expects from the Tories and shows how they hate women. Her own comments and she not only painted them as coming from her enemy's mouths but as signs of deep seated hatred for women.

Why the love for Boris? Personality cult aside, he isn't worth trusting with his track record in politics. Surely COVID was the final nail in the coffin for him.

The Tories too. Partying away whilst people were prevented under the promise of arrest from visiting dying family members in hospital. It will take me a long time to forget that.

I have no love for Labour. But idolizing a bunch of public school Tory elitists who take any decision to further themselves and don't take any responsibility for their failings are not the answer to the problems in the UK.

Labour are hardly any better, and are going to shaft the real working class whilst indulging themselves on the perks of the job. And people will be poorer and less free because of it.

He was at the barest minimum, entertaining with his carefully calculated buffoonery. Everyone else is entertaining in the same way seeing a traffic accident on the US interstate in real-time is.

Convicted killer Lucy Letby's bid to appeal against her latest conviction for the attempted murder of a baby girl has been dismissed by the Court of Appeal.
Letby’s lawyers asked three senior judges for approval to appeal against her most recent conviction, which followed a retrial in July, for attempting to kill a newborn known as Child K.
Letby, 34, had already been found guilty of murdering seven babies and the attempted murder of six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.
Her lawyers had argued her re-trial was unfair because the jury were prejudiced by the media coverage from the original trial - which ended in August 2023.
Letby has already had an appeal against her other 14 convictions thrown out by the Court of Appeal.
A public inquiry into how she was able to commit her crimes is ongoing at Liverpool Town Hall.
At the Court of Appeal earlier, Benjamin Myers KC, representing Letby, had told the court her original trial in 2023 covered an “exceptional case with exceptional media interest”, which could lead to “exceptional unfairness”.
"We are dealing with the impact of media coverage and public comment arising from the first trial, upon the second," he added.
Mr Myers KC had argued the re-trial for Baby K should have been "stayed as an abuse of process", which means the prosecution should have stopped, due to "overwhelming and irremediable prejudice" after the first trial.
He pointed in particular to "emotive" comments made to the media by police officers involved in the investigation into Letby's crimes.

'Fair trial'

However Nick Johnson KC, who prosecuted the original trial, said in written submissions that the defence application was "misguided" and the jury had found Letby to be a "multiple killer and habitual liar".
Lord Justice William Davis, sitting with Lord Justice Jeremy Baker and Mrs Justice McGowan, said at the start of their ruling they would “refuse permission” for Letby to challenge the conviction.
In a ruling briefly interrupted by a fire alarm inside the Royal Courts of Justice, he said: “We conclude that the judge was right to find that Letby would be able to have a fair trial.”

Boris is a lazy cunt who wanted to appear statesmanlike without actually doing the work. He wanted to be like his hero Churchill, but he had neither the brains nor the liver for it.

There’s no way that’s her real voice either. She northern’s it up to appeal to spastics. I bet if I was to sit down with her to discuss her money she’d drop that and speak like a middle class woman.
She's from Cheadle, south of the Mersey and firmly in Cheshire. Even today the accent around that area is notably different to anything north of the river and sounds much posher by comparison. Not posh like Marple, but still fancy. So yes, she's almost definitely putting it on. She's about as authentic as paki pizza.

The media wants you to hate Boris because he didn't take Covid seriously or something
You should actually hate him because he opened the immigration floodgates from the third world while pretending he'd do the opposite

Forgot to post this the other day, good news everybody:
A man accused of using a conker made of steel to win a competition "achieved his title fairly", an investigation concluded.
David Jakins, 82, won the men's competition at the World Conker Championships at a tournament in Southwick, Northamptonshire, on 13 October.
His victory was plunged into controversy and he was surprised to find himself at the centre of national headlines when the Telegraph reported claims he cheated by swapping his real conker for a metal one, external.
Mr Jakins, a conker competitor since 1977, denied using a steel horse chestnut at any point in the tournament, and said he kept a steel conker on him for "humour value".
In a statement, the World Conker Championships said nothing "untoward" was seen by judges or umpires.
"The video evidence following the men's final appears to show Mr Jakins putting his hand in his pocket before putting his other hand in a different pocket and drawing out a conker he had prepared earlier to throw to the crowd," it read.
"However, in so doing, the video shows clearly that he was watched by a judge who was looking directly at his hand.
"It is concluded that it would be near impossible for Mr Jakins to have swapped the conkers unnoticed."
It added: "The World Conker Championships therefore congratulates King Conker on his victory after 47 years of play."

Don't confuse smouldering hatred for the media with love for Boris. He had his funny moments for sure, but how the media lied and seethed at him was more damaging to the country than anything he did.

Boris normalised going mask off as a politician. His little "I consider the matter closed" catchphrase set my forehead vein throbbing.

What I will say in his defence is Partygate was shitty, but nowhere nearly as big a deal as the media pretended it to be. I think the worst thing he did was unlawfully proroguing Parliament to overrule its sovereignty (via lying to the Queen) to force through his vision. Whether or not you agree with his Brexit plan he basically broke with centuries of Parliamentary tradition, and then went on to stress test every aspect of our Government which is regulated by "good chap principles" - basically confirming that breaching the Ministerial Code has no consequences. And he purged the Conservative Party of any talent in his pursuit of centering Boris supporters, which then directly lead to PM Liz, PM Rishi and then their leader either being Kemi or Jenrick.

I know I don't see eye to eye with a lot of thread regulars but if you want someone to blame for a Labour Government under Keir Starmer, blame Boris - because the consequences of his actions are what disengaged most of the electorate.

I won't defend him, but I will say his whole PM-ship was one built on and in a media circus. What he did was react to poorly given advice, from poorly advised people. The media celebrated him, and played into his love of the limelight (HIGNFY) to coerce and push his decisions.
There's a direct correlation between Boris opposing lockdowns and a new scandal breaking about his personal life.
Boris - "no more lockdowns"
The media - "THE PM IS BANGING A SLAG IN A GARDEN WHILE YOU'RE LOCKED DOWN".

People missed the obvious that we wouldn't be locked down if not for Boris having to save his own skin from the hounds in the media. He entered the last lockdown first and pulled Britain out of the lockdown madness before anyone else.
He wasn't perfect, but he was backstabbed, lied to and paraded around as an attention loving buffoon. He was the perfect TPTB plaything.

Then Truss entered the limelight under false pretences, fooling TPTB and we saw how that went.

TL;DR - we have the leaders we have because the normies in this country are too stupid, lazy or feckless to dig further than a headline and have been trained on command to participate in their 2 minutes of hate.
Boris wasn't the first modern-day victim, Corbyn was, and at the time, I hated corbyn, until I realised i had been swindled.

You're right on that. I do think though that the Partygate scandal is a bigger one than you give credit to, not because of how much it impacted Boris and the Tories but because it and Sue's promotion to Kier's personal pal while her son got parachuted into a safe seat to start his career as an MP shows just how much the civil servants were aligned with Labour at that point.

Everyone with an interest in politics knows how much power they have and how many will put their personal preferences ahead of the government elected by the people but this lot, especially on the immigration and anti-Brexit stuff, went all in and long term I think the consequences to them may be as bad as those experienced by the NHS (for demanding they be treated as God's chosen saviours) and police (for destroying policing by consent as a concept with their bullshit).

I think a lockdown would have been inevitable under any PM, due to follow the leader. We're not Sweden (who didn't have lockdown but basically voluntarily did one). I never agreed with lockdown but any justifications for them evaporated after the high risk people got vaxxed.

One of the only things I liked about Boris is he pulled us out of lockdowns earlier than a lot of places - ignoring what all the advisors and Keir were screaming about - but he was mostly doing that out of self preservation.

Zero disagreement. I think that's the barrier to any form of long term meaningful change in this country. The electorate have a short memory so a Government seeking reelection must only focus on short term easy wins over decade long planning (that The Opposition could take credit for if they get in). To the point that I think Rishi left a poison chalice to Labour, although Labour's also just shat everywhere anyway and are dragging their feet on this doom and gloom budget (and the uncertainty is scaring off investors - just get it over with).

Blair was the first leader of the British uniparty. Sunak set up the 'right-wing opposite' for a fall and crippled it for a generation on purpose.
No right-leaning, or faux-right-leaning government is allowed, only totalitarianism.

The more unpopular Starmer is, the more useful he is to enact unpopular policy, he is a volunteered scape-goat. Rayner will take over when he departs, whenever that may be and she will set up for the next Labour government.

All the while, the media will tell you what to think. Don't fall for it, ever. They will use historical hatred and emotions to bamboozle you into believing any old crap that they tell you.

Final point on Boris: Sunak was at the same parties, breaking the same lockdown rules as Boris, yet it was never mentioned in his first running for PM. Selective information is to be spotted post-haste to highlight the hypocrisy of the journo scum.

You can't hate the apparatus enough.
