A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

I knew about him being nearly banned from Turnhouse, I've a friend who worked there, she confessed it all to me when she was off her tits drunk.

Thatcher sent the coal mining to the chinks, fucked the Northern industrial base to this day, sent communities into poverty they've never recovered from and, by default of shipping millions of tons of coal on a boat from China, released a fuck ton of unnecessary pollution into the seas and atmosphere.

All politics suck. All politicians suck. At least Thatcher wasn't part of the old boys public school network and broke the mould with that. Thatcher sent the police in places like ormskirk and that is what people remember her for. Ripping the industrial strength out of Britain and kicking the shit out of working people who objected. Nothing replaced that industry, people wanted work and nothing ever replaced it. The destruction was bad.
My view of her is mixed. She was canny, I can respect her sheer balls, and some of what she did but I can’t forgive what was done to places like my hometown.

It would be interesting to sit down and talk honestly with a lot of these figures. We judge, and often harshly, things like Kosovo, but you never know the full story of what pressures happen behind the scenes.

Then he was appointed prisons minister, which was also a failure and I think that was what caused him to jump ship rather than be caught up in the various scandals that are starting to come out now. He tried to be mayor of London again failed. Now he's on a podcast with Alistair campbell and lecturing US Ivy league students on politics.

It's all civil sevants, all the allegations came about after Sturgeon was making her push to oust him. The Scottish civil service is just a wing of the SNP. Even now nobody is going to put their name to an allegation.

On another note I think the public may be starting to realise the Keir Starmer is maybe just not that smart. His uncle served in the Falklands war on board HMS Antelope which was sunk by Argentinian aircraft. Which was handy for Keir because it allowed him to get all righteous when asked about the Falkand, and claim it was personal to him.

He gave so much of a shit about his uncles service that he claimed the ship was Torpedoed and couldn't remember the name of the ship.He's just a details orientated guy.

Paddy Ashdown was an actual soldier. He was always far more relatable and in-touch. I recall the BBC doing a big hoo-ha about their series of interviews with party leaders before the UK general election and how none of them would see the other's interviews beforehand, all questions pre-determined, blah blah. Anyway, one of the questions was "have you ever taken illegal drugs?"

Countdown winner accused of stabbing fellow champion​


A Countdown champion has appeared in court accused of stabbing a fellow former winner at a quiz-themed event.
John Cowen, 30, appeared at Preston Crown Court, accused of wounding with intent and two counts of possession of a bladed article.
Mr Cowen, who appeared on the TV quiz show in 2017, allegedly attacked Thomas Carey with a knife at the Countdown in Blackpool 2024 event at the Wainwright Club in the town on 14 September.
Mr Carey, a Cambridge maths graduate who also won the show, was taken to hospital for treatment to an injury to his arm.
Mr Cowen was arrested at the event shortly after.
The defendant, from Morecambe, Lancashire, spoke only to confirm his identity at the brief hearing before Judge Darren Preston.
He was remanded into custody at HMP Liverpool until a further hearing on 6 December.
The Countdown in Blackpool event is an annual tournament which pits former winners and fans of the Channel 4 gameshow against each other.
Mr Cowen scored the third highest total of the whole series he was a contestant on, as well as spotting the nine-letter word "spreading".
He went on to appear in a further 11 episodes, winning eight consecutive contests before he was finally defeated.

Preston Crown Court is weird as a lot of gangsters from Liverpool and Manchester get trials there to avoid jury intimidation locally. So what’s happened is some of those gangsters have moved some of there operations there as they spend so much time in the court, leading to Preston being this strange backward town with a problem with serious heavy duty organised crime now because the police and courts don’t seem so remember motorways exist.

Anger at UK’s ‘bonkers’ plan to reach net zero by importing fuel from North Korea

Net Zero means cutting down trees in best korea, transporting them across the pacific by boat, and then burning them in repurposed coal power stations.

Meanwhile, the UK's energy generation is bumping along just beneath max available capacity. Wind generation is running at a fraction of its nameplate capacity because of the lack of wind (due to a high pressure system sitting over Germany). The energy quango NESO issued a "blackout prevention" alert, which requires energy companies to prepare to implement load shedding plans. Energy demand this month is not outside of normal, so to see this happening is unusual to say the least, and doesn't bode well for winter, especially if we get a blocking high over scandinavia.
