A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Kwasi Kwarteng interview

Thought this was a very interesting and honest interview. He's definitely gone up in my estimations. Explains logically what happened during his chancellorship. He has a solid understanding of economics and explains at around 35 minutes why the "officialdom" like immigration - it increases Gross Domestic Product - "their models never look at GDP PER CAPITA" or the impact on infrastructure or public services.
He admits mistakes, crtiques what they did wrong and seems to have learnt from it - which is more than the vast majority of politicians do.

This makes sense - I looked up Ed Miliband and it looks like the dude was raised by literal Marxist academics and he has an elitist background. UK class politics are so foreign to Americans, so I'm glad I asked my question and learned something.
All I know about Ed Miliband is he's one of the weirdest looking fuckers I've ever seen.

And that he can't eat a bacon butty without looking like a total retard.

Unlike another British politician.

You could make the same argument about Howard Dean here in the US, but no one gets defensive about him. I guess I find the whole thing odd, is all.
I was even a Dean supporter at the time and thought the whole thing was stupid, but it was also just funny. I wouldn't get mad if someone brought it up again.

Thanks for that. As someone who is interested in Liz Truss's blink and you miss it government, I'll be watching that with interest. The way everyone and everything turned on Truss so much and so fast, honestly makes me think she must have been doing something right.

Look man, the bombers are gone and so is the wartime rationing. You can eat actual food now.
I was thinking I’d never had a cheese and onion sandwich. It’s my favourite flavour of crisps but the idea of a sandwich with actual cheese and onion, two things I love, seems horrible.

Lord Alli is being formally investigated by the standards watchdog for not registering potential conflicts of interest. Starmer has apparently paid back some of his bribesdonations, as if this will make things better. It's probably a bit optimistic to hope this results in anything much in the short term, but it's my experience that once these sorts of investigations start up, once the impropriety is allowed into the open, someone gets it in the neck sooner or later.
I'm just wondering what's worse than Starmer that's lurking in the wings waiting to take over. We all thought Sturgeon was as bad as the SNP could get but Humza Yousaf was bound and determined to prove us all wrong.

Ladies and gentlemen I have some truly, truly shocking news. It turns out if you just let criminals out of jail early, they tend to commit more crimes:
More than one in 10 of the prisoners let out of Scotland's jails early in a bid to ease overcrowding were back in prison before their original release date, new data has shown.
A total of 477 prisoners were part of an early release scheme in June and July due to concerns about the rapidly increasing prison population.
But 57 of them were back behind bars within weeks - including 12 who were out for 10 days or less.
Of those convicted or suspected of committing fresh offences, 20 were for non-sexual crimes of violence while 17 were for crimes of dishonesty.

The above poster beat me to it but let me say it with an image.

Out of all of the things wrong with that... person, somehow the teeth manage to be the worst. I don't know if its the camera angle or shadows but they seem to angle outwards like some sort of horribly fucked up cartoon monster. That is one of the most dysgenic things I have ever seen.

Why do I smell kippers?
It's an aroma she releases before she attacks. Either that or seeing it is making you sweat and you've had sea food recently.

I really like that the BBC is not mentioning the crimes of over a third of that lot when they mention 12 were done for dishonesty and a bunch of others for non-sexual violence.
Really does leave you wondering how many of the others were for sexual violence.
That is one of the most dysgenic things I have ever seen.
To briefly defend her we have a known issue with dentistry on the NHS and it is only getting worse. Many of her voters will be in the same situation.
In Angela's case it's the Dahl situation noted in the Twits and I refuse to post the image because it's been posted a lot on the Farms already.

You know, I was honestly hoping that it really was just a bad shot and not Bri'ish stuff being Bri'ish. Thanks for ruining things.

It might be a bad shot. There's plenty of shots of her with very white teeth. That angle though has perfectly captured her mid snarl. Or possibly while the demon within tries to tear free.

The UK has decided to give up the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.

I don't really give a shit about them, they were more America's than ours anyway on account of the army base, but it sets a worrying precedent that if the Africans and whoever else scream and cry loud enough, we'll roll over. Next thing you know we'll all be paying a racism tax for 'reparations'. The Caribbean's been making noises about that for a while.
