A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

In the good old days when you got dumped you would just sleep with one or two of your ex’s friends. That is way more fun that disfiguring her, going to prison, and having to blow guys for safety because you’re a scrawny 16 year old who is going straight to man prison.
Wrong. This isn't America. He'll be out of prison within a decade.

I think you’re being optimistic. I’d reckon 3-4 years.
Yeah, much more realistic. And 2 years for anyone who calls him a nigger (fastracked of course).

Quick, send another £2 billion to the met online hate crime department. No mean tweets on our watch!

I think we need to report each other for wrongthink, Bong bro.

It wasn't until Starmer stepped into the ill-fitting, grown-up shoes of prime minister and instructed a parade of previous incumbents, each one more shit than the last, to "hold my beer" , that I feel I got the measure of him. He's like a great many middle managers I have had the displeasure to work under: Authoritarian by appointment, lacking even trace elements of charisma or natural leadership ability. Worse still, from the perspective of the great unwashed, he seems absent emotional intelligence. He thrives in structural systems, such as the law, where a figurative pressing of a button yields a predictable, sometimes mandated, result. When people fail to behave as he expects, he overreacts and comes down hard with sanctions, because it's the only thing he knows. In common with men of this stripe, he will also lie by omission, ignoring all inconvenient truths until he can describe himself as honest with a straight face.
Hey, I've seen a guy like this before!

Their shared resemblance in their complete disdain for the plebians is uncanny.

I have a random question that I don't know where to ask: why is it that, to this day, British liberals get irrationally angry (without fail) when you mention Ed Miliband's bacon sandwich photo? I joked about this photo to a British colleague the other day and it was like I reminded him of the cringey way he asked a girl out in secondary school.

I thought they all hated Ed because he was Jewish? Maybe he thought that would be your next question and didn’t want to say that part out loud?

I think the arguement is that he was a qualified candidate who was held back by his nerdy and awkward demeanor. It is telling that his biggest gaffe was not something he said, but an awkward expression. It was used to paint him as an embarrassment who would not be taken seriously on a world stage.

The conversation began with me joking about Liz Truss and the head of lettuce, which was one of my favorite things ever. Then I brought up another good visual gag, the Ed Miliband sandwich photo, and the guy in question rolled his eyes and got kind of defensive about it. I assured him that I have no dog in that fight, I just thought the photo was funny (which was the truth), but it was quite a strong response to something that happened a decade ago.

You could make the same argument about Howard Dean here in the US, but no one gets defensive about him. I guess I find the whole thing odd, is all.

His brother David was the qualified one, and would have probably have been a decent prime minister, but Ed used the unions to cheat his brother out of the Labour leadership role and had to go full retard with his policies.

The liberal left in the UK hate woman more than they hate Jews. Look at their reaction to any photo of Theresa May.

British Judge steps down from Hong Kong court.

I wonder how many people in the UK are aware that British lawyers and Judges practice in Hong Kong under the guidance of the CCP, and happilly prosecute pro democracy activists provided they're paid the appropriate 'fees'.

A few years ago, a British Barrister got very minor media backlash after he actively sought work prosecuting pro democracy activists.

The guardian in fairness to them, have very carefully reported on it from time to time. However most media outlets won't, because the UK's very tight group of 5400 barristers, might hold it against them in future libel or other legal cases.
They still have British born police working in Hong Kong as well. 90 left as of this article so I expect most are gone by now
It's fucking disgusting what these cunts are doing, willfully as well. Stay in China you cunts, you deserve what they have waiting for you.

It's because they hate the working poor. They feel profound contempt for anyone who isn't "educated" and "cultured" the way they are. It's because it reminds them that they, like Ed, are deeply uncomfortable taking part in anything even remotely associated with working class life, and that their discomfort (or more accurately, their disgust) at doing so will be clearly visible to everyone around them when they try. It's like reminding a troon that he's actually a man; it generates a visceral level of disgust and self-loathing, which is directed outwards as anger at anything that holds up a figurative mirror to their state of mind.

This makes sense - I looked up Ed Miliband and it looks like the dude was raised by literal Marxist academics and he has an elitist background. UK class politics are so foreign to Americans, so I'm glad I asked my question and learned something.

Worse, they hate the workers who can earn more than most “professionals” by working with their hands. Look at the absolute contempt at men with white vans.

Part of the reason they wanted to bring back freedom of movement for the under 25’s is to teach those pesky people with trades for being self employed and not slaves of unions, so they ca drive their wages down.

Office drone seethe at me out-earning them because I'm on the tools and they're on Excel and Powerpoint will never stop being funny.

I think you miss the point a little. Both were similar candidates, but his brother was far better looking, didn't have a lisp, and seemed a lot less like an autistic faggot who wants to show off his stamp collection. It may seem a bit shallow (and gay) but people but good looks mean a lot more to voters than people would like to admit.

Please don't just say "he's a marxists and therfore bad". Ed was far more center left than his successor Jeremy Corbyn, who was an unashamed marxist. It is a little more complex than leftie bad, especially when comparing lefties. Oh and also when many of the conservatives in their country have spent the last 14 years cracking down on free speech and flooding the country with migrants.

What I wrote is what I meant: his mommy and daddy are/were Marxist academics. It is much easier to understand why some people are still prickly about Ed's political failure with that in mind. There is a technocratic class of snobby, arrogant academics in the US, as there is in the UK, who want pedigreed academics in government. That's all I meant.

I have no idea what's happened here but it sounds like it was funny.
The Last Dinner Party say they're "appalled and disappointed" after a venue enforced a security policy which audience members say discriminated against men, especially those who were alone.
Some fans claim they were taken aside by door staff at The Engine Shed in Lincoln on Saturday and asked what they were doing at the show and whether they were real fans.
The venue has apologised, saying the policy was in response to information they'd received about "incidents" at a previous gig, but they acknowledged it resulted in "the unacceptable treatment of some guests".
The Last Dinner Party pulled out of the gig at the last minute, because one of the band was unwell.
Kam Zaki, 46, was at the show on Saturday and says he was pulled aside by security and told that if he didn't consent to being searched, he'd have to leave.
Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, he describes the search as "thorough".
"They took everything out of my pockets, they went through my wallet including the coin pouch, they searched my shoes," he says.
He says he was also asked questions including: "How long have you liked the band? What's your favourite song? How many times have you seen them before?"

Kam, who lives in Brighton, had travelled to Lincoln for the gig as it was the only date he could see the band without having to take time off work.
He says he was "fuming" when the search and questioning finally finished after 5-10 minutes.
"I appreciate they're trying to create a safe space," he says. "But it was over-the-top and definitely discriminatory against men who come alone."
Other fans on social media reported similar experiences.
One user on X said the questions made him feel "like he was on Mastermind" while another said he felt "sick" after being "interrogated".

The Last Dinner Party said fans were "understandably" left "feeling uncomfortable and disrespected".
"Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend our shows," they said.
"We are appalled and disappointed that anyone was made to feel otherwise.
"We want to make it very clear that those policies were created and enforced by the venue at their own discretion and were not made in consultation with us."
The band also apologised for cancelling the show at short notice due to "sudden illness".
The Engine Shed didn't provide any more details about what had happened at the previous gig they referenced in their statement and BBC Newsbeat has contacted them for further information.
The band had previously played in Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield and Norwich, but police forces in all of those areas told Newsbeat they’d had no reports linked to any of the venues.

The Engine Shed, which is based at The University of Lincoln, says it will review all the reports of what happened and encouraged anyone who felt discriminated against to get in touch.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the venue said its door policy "requires all attendees to be treated equally and subject to the same entry requirements".
They said they carried out an "urgent preliminary investigation" on Sunday which suggested the door policy had been changed "ad hoc".
"Although the policy was changed with the right intentions, this change resulted in the unacceptable treatment of some guests and The Engine Shed would like to fully apologise".
The Last Dinner Party said it had not been informed of the changes to door policy, saying they do "not reflect our beliefs and would not have been implemented had we been made aware of them in advance".
They welcomed the venue's apology and investigation as well as "further staff training to ensure this doesn't happen again".
The Last Dinner Party, who won BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2024, cancelled their Lincoln gig at the last minute after their support acts had already played their sets.
They also had to cancel a gig in Cardiff on Sunday.
Kam says even if the Lincoln gig is rescheduled, he'll be asking for a refund because of how he was treated.
No clue about who the band are, I'm assuming the Guardian and Independent running similar articles about that either suggest the venue has really screwed the pooch or it's a band those readers like.

This phenotype. The Jew caught in his self disgust doing whiteface so obviously he has to be disowned.
