A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The funniest part is it would once and for all prove that gay men are the most corrupt and easy to bribe group of people in British politics and that we should take action to remove all gays from the houses of parliament.

So the answer would be gay and corrupt since the two go hand in hand from the current track record.
 
Kier being gay is a fanciful distraction. He's a monster. The only thing he really gets sexual gratification out of fucking is everyone poorer than him. Driving down average life expectancy would give him a greater erection than a conveyor belt of gorgeous individuals across his genitals.
 
If he’s gay that would be hilarious but the prosaic truth is more likely that Alli is manipulating him to some agenda with gifts and bribery. More info on Alli, who he is and what kind of lobbying he’d be doing would be interesting. I’ll have a dig at lunchtime

My money says even more strengthening of hate crime laws and non-crime hate incidents. It's the perfect tool to punish wrong thing and can be applied across the board.

Say anything about migrants? Racist!
Say anything about the increasingly wide banner of LGBTQ+? Homophobe!
Comment on the fact that laws being applied unfairly with the plans to try to get rid of women's prisons> Misogynist!
Note that laws seem to be enforced one-sidedly and all the talk about protecting women say seems to vanish when it's someone saying things Labour don't like? Hateful!

It'll let them shaft groups like the LGB Alliance who aren't in perfect lockstep but seem an odd choice to target and let the government end up as a state version of Antifa where they define themselves as the good people and therefore anyone against them is bad. And everything is justifiable if it's done to bad people.

It wasn't until Starmer stepped into the ill-fitting, grown-up shoes of prime minister and instructed a parade of previous incumbents, each one more shit than the last, to "hold my beer" , that I feel I got the measure of him. He's like a great many middle managers I have had the displeasure to work under: Authoritarian by appointment, lacking even trace elements of charisma or natural leadership ability. Worse still, from the perspective of the great unwashed, he seems absent emotional intelligence. He thrives in structural systems, such as the law, where a figurative pressing of a button yields a predictable, sometimes mandated, result. When people fail to behave as he expects, he overreacts and comes down hard with sanctions, because it's the only thing he knows. In common with men of this stripe, he will also lie by omission, ignoring all inconvenient truths until he can describe himself as honest with a straight face.

There are rumours of an affair with a baroness, and even speculation regarding a pregnancy in the Boris Johnson tradition. I assume that his marriage is pretty loveless. I don't thinks he's gay. Like Russell Greer or Chris Chan, he's one of those incels who, against the odds, managed to have sex, but never lost his awkwardness. Whether or not he remains in office for a full term, it's going to be a long five years.

Expect this to have a lot of abstained votes as the labour bacn benchers won't back this.

That was something the Tories also had planned if they won. Kind of funny if someone voted against Tories on this, but then for Labour to do the same.

 
I don’t want this to sound like a right wing dog whistle, lads, but every time I think I’ve peaked with this government I find another reason to hate them just that little bit more.
 
British Judge steps down from Hong Kong court.

I wonder how many people in the UK are aware that British lawyers and Judges practice in Hong Kong under the guidance of the CCP, and happilly prosecute pro democracy activists provided they're paid the appropriate 'fees'.


A few years ago, a British Barrister got very minor media backlash after he actively sought work prosecuting pro democracy activists.


The guardian in fairness to them, have very carefully reported on it from time to time. However most media outlets won't, because the UK's very tight group of 5400 barristers, might hold it against them in future libel or other legal cases.

A 14 yr old girl has been given "life changing injuries" according to police after she was attacked outside her school. A 16 yr old boy and staff member were also injured, though not as badly.

No word on the attacker. He is still at large

Hmmmm, I wonder what religion could be responsible?

Wait: new updates that will blow your mind: he's black and made his escape on an e scooter, probably to a chicken shop (unconfirmed but come on!). Surprise surprise. When arrested will say he dindu nuffin.

In the good old days when you got dumped you would just sleep with one or two of your ex’s friends. That is way more fun that disfiguring her, going to prison, and having to blow guys for safety because you’re a scrawny 16 year old who is going straight to man prison.
