A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Na, I wound up going down a metallurgy rabbit hole one time and I don't make those sorts of mistakes.

That was my trade school metallurgy class lol. The last update to the book I read was in the 60's- with good reason. That was when metalworking arguably was perfected. Tips to anyone meddling with metal, which seems to be a lot of the UK (ive met a lot of people on this site that want to be blacksmiths from your country), take some time and read about metallurgy before you go full alchemist. It will make so much more fucking sense.

Just Stop Oil’s stunts are partly funded by a campaign organisation run by Hillary Clinton, US financial disclosures reveal.
A group founded by Mrs Clinton from the ashes of her failed presidential bid has donated $500,000 (£391,500) in the last three years to the protest group’s California-based financiers.
American voters who have bought tote bags decorated with pictures of Mrs Clinton or sweatshirts promoting abortion rights have inadvertently funded disruption in the UK.
Just Stop Oil’s largest financial backer is a controversial Californian non-profit, the Climate Emergency Fund (CEF), which pays for stunts by environmental groups across the world, including Extinction Rebellion.


A paper trail of transparency disclosures, seen by The Telegraph, shows that one of the CEF’s major supporters is Onward Together, a campaign organisation founded by Mrs Clinton in the aftermath of her 2016 presidential campaign against Donald Trump.
Onward Together gave $300,000 to the CEF in 2021, and a further $200,000 in 2022. The money donated by her group was placed into a fund that was used to pay for Just Stop Oil’s protests in the UK.
The donations are the largest contribution by Mrs Clinton’s organisation to a non-profit in the last three years, and are funded by public contributions and the sale of merchandise from her online shop.
However, although the Onward Together website lists a number of “partners” supported by her group, it makes no reference to the CEF or Just Stop Oil, who are the ultimate recipients of some of the money it has donated.
A separate arm of Onward Together contributes to specific candidates in US elections.

Organisations like Just Stop Oil are not required to disclose their funding in the UK, but the group has said it has received millions of pounds from the CEF, its largest supporter.
The group has previously been criticised for accepting money from foreign donors to fund its stunts, which have recently included the vandalism of Stonehenge and paint sprayed at Heathrow airport.
Some MPs have called for the group to be designated as a terror organisation. The total cost of policing Just Stop Oil by the Metropolitan Police alone was almost £20 million by the end of last year, and is now likely to be much higher.
The CEF was established in 2019 by Aileen Getty, the granddaughter of the oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, and campaigns for governments to adopt climate-friendly policies.

It is backed by several Hollywood celebrities, including Jeremy Strong, the Succession star, who sits on its board. Other major donors, other than Mrs Clinton, include a fund run by Susie Tompkins Buell, the co-founder of the North Face clothing brand.
Mrs Clinton’s support for the group, and indirectly for the protests of Just Stop Oil, is likely to come as a surprise to her own donors, who are told only that Onward Together is “committed to lifting up emerging organisations and leaders who are fighting for our shared progressive values and defending our democracy”.
Supporters can buy mugs and tote bags decorated with pictures of Mrs Clinton and the words: “Turns out she was right about everything.”
Other products include sweatshirts and baseball caps bearing the slogan: “Reproductive rights are human rights.”
Shoppers are told the proceeds contribute to “supporting progressive groups working to build a fairer, more inclusive America”, but there is no reference on the website to the CEF or its work funding disruption abroad.

That's not to say "oh just move away" like a prog's immediate reaction to finding out Trump won in 2016. If you care about your home country, you want to protect it rather than running away like a pussy.

But many in the UK needs to think about this: What is the worst case scenario in a year, two years, five years, ten years. If the worst comes to pass, then what is your plan? Do you feel comfortable in your city, or in your country? If you had to leave either of those two, do you have the savings to do so and know where to look? If you choose to go abroad, do you understand and gel with the culture, or speak the language?

These are the kinds of questions that you might need to start asking now. Even if you don't have any plans currently. Hopefully they'll end up being useless and you'll have a bunch of savings that you didn't need to use and some random knowledge. But if shit hits the fan, it might be the best decision you've ever made.

People in much of the world should be doing this at the moment, I don't think this is an issue isolated to the UK. I pray for our Canadian, American, and Australian friends as well. I think that things have honestly reached a point globally where running away to somewhere else is just not going to solve the problem anymore, and people should prepare themselves for the worst to happen in their front yard. Get yourself some food and water stocked up, and buy silver like our dear feeder in the event that everything turns to shit.

I hope I'm wrong, but I honestly think things are going to get much worse before they get better. We'll see how the weather goes in the UK for the next month. The problem with making these plans is there's 2 key issues we can't plan for in any reasonable way.

Firstly even if you run there's no where left to get away from this mess. 10 years ago you could have said you're going to move to the country, forget the cities and leave London to it's own devices.

The second problem is there is only one way this is going to go if things aren't resolved now. The child murderer came to this country and brought genocide with it. How many others are doing the same and seeing whitey as the target? No amount of planning is going to save you if the current group plus any boat people decide it's genocide time. Even with fully automatic fire arms you're not going to be able to defend your home or escape the country very easily. So what can you do if we know this is their end game?

Interestingly though, you're seeing union jacks and tricolour flags being flown together by the protestors, and for once, they're on the same side. The other side is flying a mix of rainbow flags, palestine flags and antifa flags while chanting "who's streets, our streets".
