A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

They would show up against the EDL matches years ago but stopped because the EDL numbers were getting larger and they were getting their heads kicked in. Also it wasn’t uncommon to see black and brown faces marching with the EDL as opposed to the fully pasty white middle clsss Antifa types.

Until recently they just stuck to harassing feminists who rightly say men aren’t women.

Expect them to disappear when they realise this is real violence and not a game.

All the universities are finished for the year too so the vast majority have gone home already. This is really obvious in the demos at smaller towns that have a local uni, the footage out of Lancaster for example has the usual assortment of old crusties in the counter demonstration and next to no student presence.

Also the SWP and daft groups popularity with students in weining. Gen Z are more bias then the previous one generally

I don't understand why liberals have given so much leeway to Islam compared to other faiths simply because it's a "brown pipo" religion. The religion and its adherents go against their left wing beliefs and is arguably the most conservative and backward of the Abrahamic religions.

And their unwavering, blind support for Palestine is strange. I'm not even pro-Israel but I'm pretty sure Palestinians aren't exactly reciprocal of lefty support. Palestine is an extremely conservative and militantly islamist society. The Muslims in Palestine would throw their gay supporters off the building and either stone or convert their female supporters into sex slaves.

Cuz as mush as they cry about Cultist behavior, Like everything else it's projection. you see it all the time when one of them wakes up from the cult. They all admit it.

He's predicting Northern Ireland joining the Republic of Ireland. This is much weirder - it's dissidents in Ireland working with dissidents in the UK against their treacherous governments. Ireland and the UK have an odd relationship kind of like Canada and the US in that they're distinct countries but Canadians and Americans don't really regard each other as properly foreign.

An American once told me a joke about this "When Scotland had an independence referendum someone said to me 'What would we do if Canada tried the same thing?'".

It's true there were many horrible atrocities in Anglo Irish history but then the Canadians burned the White House down and loads of Tories got lynched in the revolution. It's a sibling rivalry thing.
Honestly I'm not sure if the Republic of Ireland's government much better though. At this point with the general secularization of society, Protestant vs Catholic are no longer strong identifiers, which is why ethnic nationalism will emerge as the common bonding factor.

I wonder how much of an ethnogenesis has occured in Northern Ireland so that an endogenous Northern Irish identity has formed, as compared to external identity with Ireland and the rest of the UK? I would imagine that the Protestants identify more with Northern Ireland compared to the Catholics, who probably have families across the border.

American here. I don’t think these riots will actually change anything, but god damn I hope they do.
It's a start. It's changed a lot already as even though the media is out there sperging on about the "faaar right!", everywhere that allows comments are showing the complete opposite. They're talking actively about the stabber, the little girls that were murdered and asking the media why they constantly omit that fact along with the real reasons why the native British are kicking off. Nobody is buying the narrative that all of a sudden, an entire country woke up and decided to be racist. They're talking about this, about the horrors that have been going on in Britain for decades because as much as Britain gets ragged on for it, they have a reputation for being polite. Stiff upper lip and all that. Now? Everybody knows the British are screaming mad at the establishment. The grooming gangs, the acid attacks, it's all coming to a boiling point and TPTB is terrified their lies and screaming of RACIST is no longer working.

@Welsh Catgirl Enjoyer absolutely, my plans are changing already. You can tell the higher powers are sensing that people are thinking this too and try to scupper them. For example in the NHS as a student you have to work there for 2 years or else they will revoke your loicense, so for me as a practitioner they can take it away and basically take away any chance of emigration. That if you are trying to get to the States is a death sentence as an ARPN is in demand and shortlisted on the H-1B list.

I will say walking to the Tesco today there is an air of unrest, some cops popped in for their lunch whilst I was there and everyone avoided them like the plague (myself included as they are scum). I live in an unaffected area too mostly white but people are more cagey. I am not going to lie stuff needs to get hurt or destroyed in order for change to happen but I think Brits are starting to wake up. I think a major part of it is Starmer, people by the end of the conservatives were itching and Starmer has revealed he is going to be just as bad but with Orwellian intent.

Again to fellow bongs use a VPN and a few sock emails, just be careful where you post especially if you work in the civil field like the NHS etc because they will use that against you too.

The left has a single unifying quality and they all share it despite their differences. They all do harm to the status quo and desconstruct it. Once you realize feminists and muslims are the demolition crew and attack from different angles you stop asking why they don't agree on anything. They agree on destruction and see each other are useful allies against a bigger threat. The enemy of my enemy is my friend is the lefts mentality.

It'll change things for sure.

I'd bet my left testicle that it becomes used to further anti-protest laws and push for social media regulations to combat the platforms where the protestors were able to organise. There's probably already an MP asking for a backdoor to be put into end-to-end encryption.

The UK government never lets a good tragedy go to waste.

Fear. Everyone knows that if you say anything mildly critical of Islam, there's a good chance that you'll be murdered. But people don't like to feel like cowards, so they rationalize it by lying to themselves that "Islamophobia" is racist, etc.
Pretty ugly glimpse into the human psyche, tbh.

They were already pressuring facebook to do that a few years ago. They have been anti encryption for years.

Islam is like the Jews. It's not a religion in the same way Christianity is. There is a heavy racial element to it, so when you say Muslims you're not saying strictly Islamic people, you're saying brown people. It's short hand.

I got thread banned from the riot threads despite being one of the few people trying to find active content and not just talk about how the UK is cucked and how it's all the Jews fault. Turns out you can spam the thread for hours about how bad the UK is and how it's not going to work but not thumbnailing an image is a thread ban. Fucking stupid.

And my understanding is that this is even more bizarre than you describe. These are Unionists and Nationalists within NI protesting together, not Irish and British citizens working across borders. These are the guys that have been doing the actual murder-fuck war crimes to each other from the 1650s all the way up until last Tuesday.
There's some sort of weird dialectic in civil wars which could be summed up as "We're taking the hammer drill to you kneecaps because we see you as a fellow countryman, albeit an apostate one". You can see it in the post Yugoslav civil wars or in Russia/Ukraine. I would say Americans don't get this but I think the exponentially increasing political polarization of the past decade or so has taught them it.

When these shitlib societies we live in melt down, and they will, it's going to be absolutely hellish.

I've said it before in a couple of places, but anyone in the UK who is showing concern for these issues needs to begin thinking quite seriously about their 10-year plans.

That's not to say "oh just move away" like a prog's immediate reaction to finding out Trump won in 2016. If you care about your home country, you want to protect it rather than running away like a pussy.

But many in the UK needs to think about this: What is the worst case scenario in a year, two years, five years, ten years. If the worst comes to pass, then what is your plan? Do you feel comfortable in your city, or in your country? If you had to leave either of those two, do you have the savings to do so and know where to look? If you choose to go abroad, do you understand and gel with the culture, or speak the language?

These are the kinds of questions that you might need to start asking now. Even if you don't have any plans currently. Hopefully they'll end up being useless and you'll have a bunch of savings that you didn't need to use and some random knowledge. But if shit hits the fan, it might be the best decision you've ever made.
We and the kids all have our nice plastic paddy passports with all the attendant EU rights to live and work.

Thank fuck, is all I can say. Thank fuck.
