A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

As an American across the pond, I have a few question for this:
1) Is there any way Labour can toss this election worse than the Torries right now that's plausible? Because that would be funny as fuck and happens all the time in US elections.
At this point Keir Starmer could sodomise a cat in the middle of Trafalgar Square and he'd still win by 100 seats.
2) What is the state of the Lib Dems and other minor parties for this election and whose likely for form coalitions with the larger parties?
Lib Dems are having a quiet but good campaign. They campaign very effectively in their target seats rather than nationally. If they gain a few more seats than expected and the Tories collapse any more, there's a good chance they could come second and form the official opposition for the first time since the 1920s.
SNP are falling to pieces because their gigantic corruption has finally come to light.
The Greens are suffering due to Labour's popularity, they might hold their one seat in Brighton (which is basically the UK's version of Portland) but not much more.
Nobody cares what the Northern Irish parties do particularly.

There are rumours that the Tories might merge with Reform if they do badly enough - not an alliance, a merger. Personally I don't think it will happen. Nobody needs a coalition, Labour's majority is set to be nearly 250 seats - there's only 600-ish seats total, to give you some idea of how big their win will be.
3) What are the chances of a hung Parliament resulting in no party getting above 30%? Think like Knesset compositions.
None whatsoever. Labour are going to monster this election, they will take nearly three quarters of the seats available, you only need 50%+1 to form a government. Hung parliaments are very rare, the one in 2010 was the first one since the 70s.

Total Tory Death.
I'm curious - what have the UK Conservatives "conserved" in the 14 years they've been in power? I keep hearing that everything is fucking shit, I see that everything is shit (through YouTube), but what's the lived experience of people in the UK right now?

I'm from the Bri'ish Norf, and live in NZ: In 50 years of walking the green, green pastures of this godforsaken planet, I have never seen a cow herded with a fucking truck at ramming speed. Well, before today.

IT'S A FUCKING COW FOR FUCK'S SAKE.
If there's a cow loose, obviously, you don't call the police, much less the Surrey Police subhuman nonce worshipping faggots.

Call a farmer.

found this on youtube. I daresay it'll get taken down soon
As much as I appreciate the enthusiasm, he started out by misspelling the name of the perp, JON Venables, then misspelled the name of the victim, Jamie BULGER. Wtf this is not helping.

He is from Liverpool. He did well not stealing everything in sight.

Court was also misspelled as core. I suspect he used some sort of auto generating tool for the text and it took one look at the Scouse accent and wept.

Also he's a Scouser admitting to an existing rap sheet and in another country likely so the police can't get him, there's a non-zero chance he's lying.

Looks like it was probably auto captions. He's saying the surname correctly

Controversial take but no one under 70 cares about D Day commemorations. They're an abstract event for walking corpses.
Oh my bad. Not like people over 70 and walking corpses vote overwhelmingly Conservative and really need to be kept onside due to the presence of the reform party.

Oh wait...

That's just the shitty auto-captioning these apps put over the top. You can tell the guy said "British court" but the captioning heard it as "core".

They’ve conserved the elite’s grip on power and marched us a bit further back to feudalism. Other than that nothing.
Lived experience? Well, it’s been raining solidly for about 16 months now, the roads are disintegrating. The bins don’t get picked up much. The police are non functional for actual crime but very keen on nabbing anyone who upsets a protected class. The alphabet menace/ woke demon has infiltrated every core institution we have. The rivers and beaches are being filled with sewage when a few years back they were clean enough to swim in. The trains still don’t run on time but the fares have almost doubled. Utility, water, sewerage electricity and gas prices have rocketed. We no longer have even a pretence of freedom of expression
The entire country is packed to the ginnels with fighting age men from every country in the world all claiming benefits, the NHS is in bits, and Labour are about to get in and make everything an order of magnitude worse.
Did I miss anything?

They don't vote for pakis either. Which you might have noticed being an issue with the conservative leadership.

You missed every town is spending millions on faggotry and kids are being groomed in primary school.

There are 850 cinemas in Britain today and three times as many food banks.
There are 1,200 hospitals and twice as many food banks.
There are more food banks than there are public libraries.
Food banks tend to be small things run out of churches. My local hospital could fit every food bank in the country in it's grounds and still have space.
Covered there .
Not well enough. Your town can afford hundreds of flags and to repaint all the roads but it can't fix the pot holes.
