A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Yes he is.
Leaving the D Day commemorations early is proof that this guy has no idea what he is doing! Imagine if Joe Biden just pissed off halfway through to go on CNN instead. What a disgrace that our PM didn't bother to represent the nation that provided so much for the invasion.

And for what? A family tragedy? A national crisis back home? A major security threat?

NO! To do some meaningless ITV interview about how great he is, which he could have just pushed back a couple of days. It also shows how little respect he has for the nation, our history and our veterans. No other PM would be caught dead leaving. The tories claim to be the flag waving patriots but he can't even be bothered to show up to the most historic rememberance service available. The easiest of easy PR wins. Just show up and look stoic. Shake some Vet hands and enjoy the sun.

YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT DROOLING RETARDS?! I 100% guarentee you, Boris, Liz and Cameron would (and did) see rememberance events out to their fullest extent. Because at the very least they saw them as PR wins. May didn't tap out of the 75th D-day anniversary either early, despite being in a crisis at the time.

This is a symptom of Sunak's total lack of understanding of British culture. He likes the UK because it's good for buisness. Because it's a place where rich people live. He knows nothing of it's history, nor it's culture. Everything in life, including his role of PM was just served up to him on a silver platter. He just happened the be the least retarded Tory MP in a sea of failures. He genuinely doesn't get why he should have stayed at D day. To him just saying a quick hi then pissing off is ok.
You are fat and gay and I would not have sex with you

For an Ameritard, how is is that they are competing for 609/650 seats, polling higher than the Conservatives, but only expected to win 1/10th the seats? Is it just that the opinion polling has nothing to do with the reality of local races?
The election is of MPs (Members of Parliament) which exist for the many constituencies across the country. Each consituency being a modestly sized geographical region. Each consituency is its own mini-result. Which is why it's possible to have real humans count the votes by hand over night have results the next morning.

If support isn't sufficiently concentrated then you can have huge numbers of votes for a party nationally but not enough to tip over individual constituencies. E.g. in a hypothetical scenario where Party A had 60% of the vote and Party B had 40% and this was entirely evenly distributed across the nation, Party A would end up with all seats and Party B with none.

It's not a wholly bad system. It is designed to ensure some level of strong leadership. If you have proportional representation where it's a flat vote across the entire nation you can end up with situations like Belgium where it's just entire deadlock and they actually went several years without anybody being able to form a government (which appeared to not affect Belgium, incidentally).

Basically the UK parliament system is designed to tip one way or another rather than just butt heads. And with a multi-party system unlike the USA, it somewhat works. However, nothing comes for free and it also makes it very hard for "upstarts" to get into the establishment.

Some years back there was a national referendum on whether to shift to a Proportional Representation system. The British public had an opportunity to change things to what would probably have been a better system on balance. However, leaflets went to every house in the country with a picture of three sprinters passing a finish line and an arrow pointing at the guy in third place with the caption "Under proportional representation, this guy would win". And the mooing British public voted against it.

I will say, it is wild to see the Tories slide into oblivion mere years after they managed to crack the Labour Red Wall. It's a testament to how badly they fucked this shit up.
This is by design. They all come from the same schools, have the same friends and attend the same events. They have slap fights when the cameras are on but behind the scenes they're all the same people and they will jump parties and policies as often as it suits their needs. The public go "Wow, fuck the tories! I hate them!" and labour do the exact same thing and then the public go "Fuck labour!" and the tories do the exact same thing. Didn't you notice suddenly every party has to have a non-white leader and they all fell in line almost immediately with each other?

Controversial take but no one under 70 cares about D Day commemorations. They're an abstract event for walking corpses. Him walking out early isn't unexpected from someone who has no involvement in UK history and it wouldn't be for someone who did. It's one of those 5 minutes of hate the media drum up to get facebook posts going. When the average Joe doesn't care outside of virtue signalling. Most probably didn't even know the event was happening and wouldn't click a news article on it either way.

I hope Sunak does sink the Tories, he deserves it for snaking his way into the leadership. It's the Trump curse-by-proxy for sinking Truss.

An additional advantage is that it ties individual MPs down to geographical areas. British MPs hold "constituency surgeries" where local people can come and see them about problems - I've had several of my friends get problems with education or healthcare sorted out because their local MP bullied the right people for them. My local (Tory) MP has a reputation as a really good constituency MP, and that might just save his ass from the overall Tory drubbing. I still won't vote for him because it's still a vote for the Tories and I can't do that anymore, but it does make me sad to help fire him for things his bosses did.

2 points here:

1 - Walking corpses vote Conservative. Or at least they did until he insulted the one thing they care about.
2 - PR aside, Sunak turned down the chance to hang out with Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron for an hour. Do you know how hard it is to get to talk to the US President, face-to-face, for an hour? How much you could get done in that time? But no, time to go give an interview nobody would care about and that could have been done the next day instead. It shows he is a pants-shitting retard with no ability to set priorities. And @Pedophobe thinks this drooling idiot is a better PM than Cameron.

AV wasn't PR. Nobody wanted it, not even the Lib Dems. The criticisms of it were entirely justified.

He missed one photo op, that was it - he was there for most of it. This is just the media smelling blood. I bet they wouldn't have run the photo at all had Sunak not been absent from it.

You have remembered who the current US President is, right?

They're also racist and went paki bashing in their youth. They weren't voting for a paki either way.

All you can do is vote local. You're better off with a MP willing to protect you than a fat nigger asking how many rooms the nearest hotel has.

And nothing of value would have been said or discussed. Do you think photo ops with stuttering Joe are where you decide important issues? You have a weird view of politics.

Come on lads I know we're all extremely fucking tired from being fucked around by the powers that be in this shithole of a country but obvious bait is obvious.

Also in the right hands that cow the police ran over could literally have been gently herded away by someone by calmly guiding it away from areas where it could do the most damage. It's ridiculous. And no doubt the repairs to the police vehicle will come from the taxpayers.

I have worked in actual politics and most real politics is done during meet-ups where there's no note-takers, nobody listening to your phone calls and people can speak their minds. It's all about access. There's a reason the "Groom of the Stool" was one of the most powerful positions in the medieval court because you got 10 minutes of one-to-one time with the king when you were wiping his ass. Summits and treaties just rubber-stamps what was done in back rooms. Biden, Macron and, embarrassingly, Cameron spent an hour together out of earshot of the press. The opportunities that Sunak would have had to bend their ears would have been invaluable - if Sunak were not already convinced that he won't be PM in 2 weeks so it didn't matter. I bet that's why he blew it off.

Sunak would be pissing off soon even if the tories were guaranteed to win a landslide at the next election. He's parcelled up everything of value in the country for his disaster capitalism buddies to buy up and break apart, and was already mentally picking out new carpets for his california palace months ago.

That video was the first thing I saw this morning when I opened my phone and it was really fucking horrible, poor animal. Placing bets now that the driver was one of our diverse brethren who didn’t understand that you don’t behave that way in animal-loving Britain.
Driver was most likely not Indian. :)

Some wonk at the Times has translated this to 7 seats for Reform and just 72 for the Tories, with Labour's majority well above 200. SNP headed for disaster as well.
As an American across the pond, I have a few question for this:
1) Is there any way Labour can toss this election worse than the Torries right now that's plausible? Because that would be funny as fuck and happens all the time in US elections.
2) What is the state of the Lib Dems and other minor parties for this election and whose likely for form coalitions with the larger parties?
3) What are the chances of a hung Parliament resulting in no party getting above 30%? Think like Knesset compositions.
I know. I'm saying the police dealing with country people are very different to urban ones. They usually have good relationships with them because they're having to deal with people 1 on 1 with no back up. If you piss off a farmer on his land you're not getting help for 30 minutes or more and you know he owns a couple of guns when you can't carry any.
You say that but that's not entirely true. It's not like most owners would have .30-06 or 7.62x51 semi autos capable of just downing the officers in their vehicles at range like they do in the states. Even then, they'll probably just bring a special team from the State/Feds (or in your case the Crown) to shoot your dog and burn down your house later in a false flag if they feel slighted.

Americans shouldn't comment on other country's culture. You don't need a semi auto to gun down people to be a threat. A guy with a shotgun can take your head off just fine. 2 cops with tasers VS a guy with a shotgun or a rifle is not a situation they want to be in. There would be retribution but that doesn't matter to the dead cop. And if you piss off the family they may park a tractor in the gate way so you literally cannot drive out. I've seen it happen and you don't want to be trapped in the middle of a farm yard with no escape.
