A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Well Null was right, now the tranny killer epidemic has begun
>Cat killer Scarlet Blake found guilty of murdering Jorge Martin Carreno
Case details are objectively horrifying, including sexual gratification from putting a cat in a blender and a leopard print garotte.
Hmm, phenotypically reminds me of a brick-faced someone;

The Mail article is much better: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ender-victim-random-escort-called-police.html, https://archive.is/fXhCC
Apparently he was betrayed by his t4t boyfriend, kek.

For bonus points see if you can spot the reference to Chris in the article.

How does this work out? Do they view the world at a constant angle?

Does gutter oil and stir frying cats give chinks strokes or something?

They're going to turn the entire world into Detroit.

Ha this was interesting. The place in County Durham actually looked like it it had a decent community, that little pub with all the locals playing bingo. The houses there are being auctioned off for 5 grand each if anyone wants to be an instant property magnate. The north Welsh town was the same, had that faded grandeur atmosphere of old seaside towns.

Funny how the shittiest, most rubbish filled place with ambulances screaming constantly and weapons bins was 100% populated by blacks and pajeets 🤔

Call me old-fashioned but I'll vote for anyone who fixes the roads.

The 'pot-holes' i've seen across the norff are laughably bad. Some are inchies deep and unavoidable.

Hitting inch-deep pot holes on the A1 at 70mph is a hairy experience with low-profile tyres.

You could have a bath in some of the ones near us.

With the state of some of the roads in England you'd think you were living in a third world country, its a real embarrassment and nothing seems to ever get done about it.

But why are there pot holes like this ?
I've been driving for about 25 years and the situation seems to me to be worsening ( and I drive darn sarf ). Certainly in the last decade or so....
Is it an environmental thing - can we blame it on climate change ? I would say no, as the extremes aren't so severe that they would damage the roads more than previously.
Are vehicles getting bigger / heavier ? Could the extra force on the tarmac be causing it ? There were plenty of lorries around before 2000. I think there probably are more bigger and heavier ( SUVs, 4x4s, estates ) cars on the road now, so possibly a contributing factor.
Number of cars on the road ? 2000 - 27.2mil, 2020 - 32.7mil - so an approximate 20% increase. Significant and again, probably a contributing factor.
Does the size of vehicle and the number reach a tipping point that we have crossed over ? I suppose the counter claim could be ( naively ) that the extra car tax from these types and the number of vehicles should raise enough revenue ( if it were actually spent there ) on repairing the roads ?
Is it a question that with the limited resources available to the government that the powers that be think that the money would be better spent on something else ? Is it a local government rather than national level thing ? Or does it depend on the road ( ie motorways are national, the high street is local ) ?
I don't claim to know the answers, these are just the things that go through my mind when this question is brought up. I'd be interested to see what others thought the problems / solutions were ?

It’s not being fixed when it’s small.
It’s fixed in a half arsed way by people who don’t give a shit.
More vehicles and
heavier vehicles.

@EddyRooney electric vehicles tend to be heavier than their equivalent counterparts interestingly.

Otterly nailed it though. If you want a great example of one going to get much worse soon chunks of the M6 are being converted to a "smart" motorway, something extensively overrunning. As well as the issues caused by that they've not done any routine maintenance so now there's a lot of issues with the surfaces. Bad as it at the speed cap of 50 there I could see them finishing up the Smart motorway works and having to close again within a week due to people hitting them at 70 and wrecking their vehicles.

Interesting. I just read about electric cars. So they are heavier, wear more on tyres ( so the force being applied to roads is clearly considerably more ) and they pay no road tax ? So in other words they damage the roads far more and don't make a contribution to repairing them ?
In 2016, approximately 0.4% of cars were electric, now it is about 4%. However, new sales are about 15%, so this problem is only going to get worse.

Road tax will no doubt change.

As you noticed they go through tyres quicker which means more new tyres are needed. Which need to be manufactured and transported all of which have carbon footprint consequences.

Everyone who thinks electric cars are the solution is only right in that fewer people will be able to afford to have their own car.
