A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

What's the actual likelihood of a General Election spinning off of this? Heard some guy hoping for it this morning.
Hah. Hahahaha. No. I wish though, it would be nice. What people need to realize is, labours baying for a GE if there's a change of leadership and a new PM only applies if it's them in opposition and hoping to gain from it.

That said it would be extremely nice if people remembered this and looked at their hypocrisy once Starmer is shit-canned and made a right old public, noisy fuss over it. FWIW I agreed with them on this matter when the tories were swapping out PMs every few months and I think it's a valid point but there is no way, in hell, they will let go of power now they're back in number ten.

We don’t need purity spirals.

Realising the error of your past ways, seeing the situation for what it is and knowing the best way forward now is all that matters.
It's not purity spiraling to say you fucked a nigger and should be deported to Africa for bestiality. Do not fuck niggers.
I don't care what the future of the country looks like, I want Labour and the Tories to have ZERO seats and for every single candidate to have to go on PIP to earn an income.
Tories have lots of seats. They just changed their ties.

Any one celebrating a Reform win is an idiot because Reform is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Everyone knew they couldn't win as one of the major parties so they jumped in bed with Reform as quickly as possible. Reform is made up of ex-tories who were smart enough to jump ship once they saw the money had run out. Any idiot grifter knew if they joined Reform they would win their area from a protest vote. So now you have Boris Johnson's Tory party but lead by Farage.

This is very very fucking bad unless Restore can take over from them. Reform will flood the country the same way the conservatives did because they are the exact same people. They even brought in all their brown mates once Farage let them take top seats. Likely in a deal of "Give me a good position in Reform and I'll make sure you get these seats because they're all held by my cousins".

Any one based in Reform is going to be very quickly kicked out and have a police investigation into their anti-semetic, nazi views. And the general public will clap and cheer because they fell for it yet again.

Calling an election is at the discretion of the current government (until they're forced to call one in 2029).

The party of the current government is currently polling at about 16% nationally.

They're dumb, but they're not that dumb.

The only thing about it we're celebrating is that it has destroyed labour and the tories and shown there's a widespread desire to expel these invaders, even of Reform aren't the party to do it. we're seeing the complete overturn of the current political paradigm, while Norfolk appears to show that people will vote for an actual anti-migrant party over the "safe" Reform candidate every time.

Not sure if it's the right thread, but happy 100th birthday David Attenborough
Close enough.

Nooo yooou dooon't unnderstaaaand, the far-hard-ultra-extreme right actually shifted the window and now he can't whine as much, so he has to find something else to whine about, this is awful :'(
We're gonna get this bullshit "talking" point from a lot of people in the britmedia as the window shifts further, they're gonna be out of a job and this will make them very very salty.

I really don't know what to think about this. Initially I thought this was a wind up. Equal parts lunacy, hilarious and horrifying ?
Politics used to be dominated by white men. Now it's dominated by mentally ill white male sex pests. Take that chud. A true win for women.
Thats why people are noticing, thats why this new wave is different from the old wave. 13 is a small number but it feels so much larger in the context of population density.
13% isn't a small number. Other than the fact that it can be 51% in some contexts. 13% is the 2 in 15. That's 4 kids in a class room that are now brown. And also this 13% isn't like the other 13% because they are less employed and just generally more useless to society so you see more of them. It's like homeless people. I know there are more ginger people than homeless people. But I cannot remember the last time I saw a ginger person, I can remember the last time I saw a homeless person though because they stuck out more.
Also Stuart Prior, Reform double winner in Essex today. Spoilered for size of video but highly recommend
I don't know what the fuck it is but I hate the journofag vocal phenotype. Ywuve swoken a wot abowt de white pweple as de mastew wace. They talk like fucking furries erping.

About as likely as winning the lottery jackpot. Heard a guy hoping for that this morning too.

Also that 13% is not 13% in younger generations.

If Starmer was ousted
He's not going anywhere, he's the kapparot chicken for the entire political establishment at this point, and he has a LOT more sin to eat, they wouldn't let him quit if he wanted to. the only ones retarded enough to break this delicate stasis are the lefties, and they might just fucking do it, but until they do queer isn't going.

Opinions on Scotch independence? I'm opposed to it only because the 2014 referendum was supposed to be once in a lifetime. (I can't believe the party that's whole gimmick is based on Independence would lie about that! :() It would also set a precedent that you can just rerun elections until you get the result you want (I'm sure someone's going to respond that's already been established).

That was in reply to someone talking about the change in the past few decades. Which is 13%.
Well, the change is 17%

I argued for it, on the basis that resources were being unfairly hoovered up and not distributed back out by London.
And the fact that Brexit was very likely to be happening in England and this did not seem like a good thing.
The referendum was suggested to be a “once in a generation” chance by Salmond.

I think that as a result of the referendum near miss, Scotland did end up with a better deal albeit not as good as was promised by the unionist side, and not without further fuss.

These days I am less convinced there is a good case could be made, and I’d be worried about the horrifying state of Scottish politicians available to form an independent government.

So a generation it is, imo. The SNP know this too, that’s why they have never seriously pushed the issue again since.
