A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Hilariously, or not, I’ve actually had this training at work. If we send you somewhere and you get threatened with death or injury unless you do x or y here is how to not get in trouble afterwards…
Like, thank you I suppose but I’d rather not be in that position to begin with and I don’t think the resulting paperwork if I ever do is really my responsibility
When I worked in retail as a little baby Salsa, we got knocked over by a guy with a machete and I told him 'Hey, tills open, I don't know the safe combination' and my boss afterwards was like "Good thinking with that lie." Motherfucker I didn't lie lmao, if I knew the combo, the safe would have been open, are you insane?

Joey Barton charged with GBH With Intent. Remanded in Custody until his trial is scheduled to start in FIVE months time.

Whereas Hollie Dance (and her thug son Tom Summers) both get convicted of GBH with intent on 1st April, and both let loose on society until their sentencing on 31st May.

Note both Hollie and Tom have been convicted of GBH in the past (Hollie twice) so like Barton, it's not their first rodeo.
The entire justice system from the police to the courts to the prisons/probation area are misandrist as fuck. The solution to the prisons crisis is to maybe shut down women's prisons and convert them to mens prisons, which is fucking insane. Every single evil woman partner in crime is portrayed as being manipulated by the 'real' ringleader, which is why it's so strange that Ian Huntley got murdered in prison yet his girlfriend Maxine Carr (who was heavily linked to Huntley, giving false alibis and there's no fucking way she didn't know he'd killed them) got a 3 year sentence for *say the line, judge* conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Every single time, from Myra Hindley to Lucy Letby to Rose West we see them as the unfortunate angel caught up in the crossfire for some fucking reason. The idea that women can be evil is just unheard of and reinforces the idea that men are disposable and should be shot for things that a woman would do 3 months in probation for.

In every fucking town, the most notorious crackhead shoplifter tends to be a woman between the ages of 30 and 40 who is constantly given minor fines, slap on the wrist punishments and invited to "communal programs". Police officers won't touch them because they'll scream rape and the 3 year investigation will destroy their careers.

It's actually incredible how if we just threw three people from every town in the UK in solitarity for life, like 90% of crime in the uk would disappear overnight.
You can apply it to many social ills really, excepting crimes of passion/pure opportunity/mastermind villain bullshit the vast majority of offences happen because it's the same few fuckers doing it everytime. The dude who sells Syrian cigs under the counter is also the guy who has a sideline people smuggling to staff his weed farm which he uses to fund his backroom card games and the like, it's all interlinked in a surprisingly small circle of shit, if the garden of ne'er-do-wells was trimmed a little more diligently it wouldn't be quite so horrible looking.

Some American guy told me that he thinks if Restore took power and deported all the Muslims, they'd start doing some purity spiral thing and would start deporting people of Irish descent as well. Will this happen? Is resolving the Irish question once and for all the true end goal of Restore?

It's also incredible how easy it is to never interact with an entire segment of British society if your next door neighbour isn't a pikey or if you don't work retail.

Crackhead Jonny lasts about 3 hours out of prison before he's drunk at the train station and sent back. Unless you were literally at the train station where he was throwing bottles at the police, you'd never interact with this guy in your life.

Well it would be nice if restore deported the foreigners from Ulster too.

It's complete bullshit though. No. The slippery slope argument is not fucking real in any context. No one is going to go 'oh well we just deported violent rapists who want to destroy the country so we best carry on and get rid of hard working people that are basically natives who have proven their worth and integrated into society'. It makes less sense than saying restore will round up all the monkeys in the zoos to execute them because monkeys are also sometimes rapists. It's an obviously disingenuous leap of logic from people who purposefully want to make a reasonable position of 'illegal immigration is illegal' into some retarded fringe opinion that only retarded neonazis would have.

Restore are based, but they're not that based.

Yet.

Thanks for telling me there is a fresh outpouring of scummy behaviour there, I only look in on the thread every 6 months or so.
(glances at it)
Good grief.

Some American guy told me that he thinks if Restore took power and deported all the Muslims, they'd start doing some purity spiral thing and would start deporting people of Irish descent as well. Will this happen?
No, the Irish aren't people.
I trust everyone had a good Easter Weekend? This Southern poof spent it in a tent outside a bunker in Cheshire with the fine weather of gale force winds and hailstorms.
I was at Chester Zoo Monday and saw none of that, must be God reminding you to remain south of Birmingham :)

My favourite part about holidays is that the dog will be walking around doing whatever the fuck she does during the day and then walk into our room and get super surprised that we're home and come and get all lovey. Then she leaves and I assume thinks that we leave or maybe she's just fucking retarded, so she thinks we're not home again, then she comes back into our room and get super excited again. She just has no idea what to do when we're both home all day.

Was all good fun catching up with mates who tell it like it is, and some nutter brought a bottle of absinthe for the evening festivities.
Nah it was shite. Just stupid home maintenance stuff and more self injury like a twat. I'm annoyed that multiple important letters have been delayed by 4 days without post. I understand bank holidays but fuck bank holidays. I want my post!

But I'm glad you posted. Is it true you had a run in with some little men during a visit to the public loo? I heard you got done for it and now everyone thinks you're a little bit gay.

reminding you to remain south of Birmingham
I am seriously considering a trip to Birmingham to go shopping at a proper model shop.. I don't need more models. But I wouldn't mind a leggy blonde with double Ds and a nice smile.. Or a couple of goblins with mini guns. I'm flexible.

In Birmingham? I'd joke about the sort of models you would find but I'm tired and have news to post so the mob can make their best jokes instead.

Scottish Greens fielding prison abolitionists. Guess that's one way to avoid male rapists being allowed into female prisons.
A Scottish Green election candidate is facing criticism after revealing she wants to abolish prisons.
Kate Nevens - who is standing on the Edinburgh and Lothians East regional list - says she is "keen to live in a Scotland" with no jails.
Political rivals have accused her of promoting "absolutely bonkers" and "monumentally stupid" views on justice reform.
Scottish Green co-leader Gillian Mackay, backing "fundamental reform", said prisons would still required in the "short term" to house violent offenders.

Nevens, a charity worker, is her party's second pick on the Edinburgh and Lothians East regional list.
As a result she has a good chance of being elected to Holyrood next month if the Greens perform well.
She is also a constituency candidate in Edinburgh North Eastern and Leith.

In a video posted on Instagram, she described herself as a prison "abolitionist" who wants "to see the complete abolition" of the prison system in Scotland.
Nevens said: "Prisons are not safe, they're violent, they're poor for people's health and wellbeing, particularly if you're a woman. And they fail to support rehabilitation.
"So actually they do not make those of us who are not breaking the law safer either."

The candidate said the "ultimate goal" of the Greens was to "not have the prisons system as it is right now".
In the meantime, Nevens said the party wanted to "massively" reduce the number of people being sent to jail while focusing on "community justice", pointing to electronic tagging and un-paid or low-paid work as alternatives to custody.
She called for work to tackle the the "root causes" of crime - citing trauma and inequality.
Doubling down on her views in a later post, Nevens said she was "still keen to live in a Scotland with no prisons".

Scotland's prison population reached a record high last month despite the government introducing an early release programme.
Hundreds of inmates serving sentences of less than four years have been let out early since November in an attempt to reduce overcrowding.
The scheme does not apply to those convicted of domestic abuse or sexual offences.
During a campaign visit to Inverness, Scottish Green co-leader Gillian Mackay said the number of people being sent to prison should be reduced, but added that jails would still be required to house the most violent offenders in the "short term".
Asked if she had concerns about Nevens deviating from party policy, Mackay said Green candidates would be elected on the same manifesto and would work to deliver it.
A Green spokesperson that the party wants to end "mass incarceration and punishment", instead focusing on crime prevention and supporting victims.
They added: "All forms of detention should be used as a last resort - mainly for violent crimes - and done to protect people and society where there is no alternative."

Scottish Labour's Pauline McNeill described the Green candidate's comments as ludicrous and reckless.
She said: "This would let murderers and rapists to walk our streets free of consequences for their heinous crimes.
"That is not progressive, it is monumentally stupid."
The SNP's Angus Robertson said the abolition call was "absolutely bonkers".
Scottish Conservative candidate Sue Webber said the justice proposal was "insane and irresponsible".
"It beggars belief that someone who fervently believes that murderers and rapists shouldn't be locked up is high up the Greens' Lothian list and likely to become an MSP."

Reform's Thomas Kerr said that "an end to prisons is not liberal or progressive but instead dangerous extremist ideology".
Scottish Liberal Democrat Liam McArthur said: "This is a dangerously naive view of the world.
"The first priority needs to be public safety and there are some people who are just too dangerous to be walking the streets."
He added that there must be a "credible alternative to imprisonment for low level offences", better education in prisons and action to reduce delays in the justice system.
As a result of finding out about this I also found that it looks like the party's members are abusing the complaints system against their political rivals too. Bear in mind with those involved that the Greens want any accusations by female members against male to automatically be assumed to be in the woman's favour.

A leading Green election candidate has been suspended from the party after a complaint from a rival candidate, who then took his place.
Guy Ingerson was due to top the regional list for the party in the North East of Scotland in May. But he was dropped on Monday due to an unresolved complaint against him.
BBC Scotland News understands that one of the individuals who submitted the complaint against him was Maggie Chapman, who will now take Ingerson's place at the top of the list. This is despite there also being an outstanding complaint against her.
The Scottish Greens rejected claims that the process was unfair.
The party expects to elect one MSP for the North East region at the Scottish election in May - meaning the lead candidate is likely to secure a place at Holyrood.
In something of an upset, Ingerson topped a vote of party members last summer. He defeated Chapman, a sitting MSP in the region.

Ingerson previously worked for Chapman, and it is understood the pair are not on good terms.

The Scottish Green's Elections and Campaigns Committee recently received separate requests for both candidates to be re-vetted to check their suitability as candidates.
Due to the unresolved complaint from Chapman, made last October, Ingerson was denied the status of "approved candidate".
Chapman passed this vetting despite there also being an outstanding complaint about her. That complaint came from Ingerson and another Green member.

It was announced on Monday that Ingerson was dropped as a candidate, just two days before the close of nominations for the Holyrood elections on 7 May.
Each Green candidate on the North East list therefore moves up one place, meaning that Chapman secured the position of lead candidate.
Ingerson posted on social media that there had been a "two-year long campaign of bullying, lies, rumours and smears designed to stop my candidacy".
He also alleged the system had been "abused" and called for reform of the party's complaints process.

A Green source told BBC Scotland that this was not the only complaint that had been made against Guy Ingerson.
They added that any complaint against a candidate would be judged in isolation.

The Scottish Greens are hoping for their best election result ever at the upcoming Holyrood election, but have suffered bouts of infighting recently.
A Scottish Green spokesperson said: "Guy Ingerson is suspended from the Scottish Greens following unresolved complaints.
"Following completion of the party's vetting process, he will not be nominated as a candidate for the Scottish Greens for the upcoming Holyrood election. We reject his characterisation of our processes and party officers.
"The lead candidate for the North East will be Maggie Chapman with a top-up selection meeting taking place with members to determine the final list."
Both Chapman and Ingerson were approached for comment.

I'm not going to link an article because there are many but the Greens, like the urban bug hive dwellers they are, want to cap motorways at 55mph. I could scream about this for a while.

In lighter news I know the Farms loves the "is this what those men died in WW2 for" and as such I bring a rare alternative version of it for them.
A man whose two grandads from South Asia fought in World War Two, helping Britain win, has said he is "so proud" of them after learning more about his family history.

More than 2.5 million people living in the British Raj - as it was known at the time -volunteered to fight.

But Ibrahim Christi, 27, said he had not been taught about it at school, adding that the curriculum covered "mostly just Japan, Germany, the US and the UK".

He said it had been "eye-opening" and "very interesting" to learn about people from South Asia and Africa who also fought in the conflict.
The British Indian army was made up of volunteers from pre-partition India, Nepal and Sri Lanka and became the largest volunteer army in history.

A bronze sculpture, depicting five figures in uniform - representing the Gurkhas, Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus who made up the British Indian Army - has gone on display in Oldham as part of a project to celebrate their contribution.

The project's being led by the charity, British Future, which said its research had suggested that less than half of the UK public knew that Indian soldiers served in World War Two.

A drop-in event at Gallery Oldham coincided with the Royal British Legion's Forgotten Army exhibition, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the war.
Ibrahim's mother, Sharon Chisti, and her family moved from Pakistan to the UK and settled in Oldham in the 1980s.

Her grandfather fought for Britain in World War One, while her father, Mohammed Shariff, and her adopted father both served in World War Two.

She said she was "very happy" about the project in Oldham.

"I just hope that other people, after seeing this, can go into their history as well and find out what sort of role they did in their families.

"I was lucky because we were brought up from day one knowing our family was in the army."
Stuart Steele from the Royal British Legion said; "The British Empire, as it was, spanned the globe and that meant the people of the globe fought in a world war.

"So the British Indian Army of World War Two, pre-partition, was two and a half million strong and it's about telling that story of their contribution to a wider audience."

Ibrahim said: "We didn't really get taught in school about the other people who fought in the world wars, like the British Raj or Africa and stuff like that.

"So after researching and hearing my granddads speak about their time in the war it was actually very eye-opening for me because it was like oh I didn't know all of this."

British Future is encouraging more people to look into the history of their South Asian ancestors through the My Family Legacy website.

Shouldn't they be increasing the speed limit on the motorways? The limits were set in the sixties, based on sixties car technology, and have never been updated since. They should increase the limit to reflect improvements in braking and safety technology, or better yet give us a British "Autobahn" with no limit.

Is this in Restore's manifesto? I might write to them and suggest it right now.

They should increase the limit to reflect improvements in braking and safety technology
And then set to 10mph to reflect the drastic plummet in driver quality (that we imported from india)
