A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Can Royal Mail die? I've been waiting on a package. 48 hour delivery. Stuck in London for two days. Meant to be delivered today. Nothing. Can it just be killed? It's fucking useless.

In a pretty similar boat. Was supposed to receive a package from abroad via Parcelforce days ago, but they're merging into Royal Mail at the moment, so Royal Mail took over when it arrived in the UK, and are being their increasingly useless selves. Parcelforce had their issues, but they generally shipped on time and were decent enough. Never had them lose a parcel, at least. Merging into Royal Mail can be seen as nothing but a downgrade.
Honestly, what other decent options do we have now? DHL are the only good one I can think of, but they're expensive, and you have to live with the fact that you directly put money into the German economy every time you use them. UPS are a joke, and never accept accountability whenever they somehow lose your tracked package ("lol no refunds!"), and Evri is an option for the truly desperate. Might as well toss a coin with them, heads says package arrives late and beaten up, and tails says it doesn't arrive at all.

At least with the post office, your package does eventually arrive.

Believe me, this is becoming increasingly not true.

I think you're suffering from confirmation bias. It might be what you think and what your friends think, but it certainly isn't the case nationwide.
I see plenty of "refugees welcome here" types when I walk around my local town ( Lib Dem and Green types - out for the day recycling their sandals and buying Tarquin's avocado and kale salad for lunch ). When I'm at work in the City, most of the offices still employ a "diversity is our strength" mantra and I very much doubt these people would vote themselves out the country ( and off the gravy train ) by choice.
The national propaganda channel, the BBC, still portrays the default position as immigration being a positive thing as hard as it can, in spite of increasing contrary evidence.

I don't doubt that a lot of the country has woken up ( especially the white North ? I don't know as I don't live up there, but I assume so - just my perception ) but I don't think you can assume this is the default position. Plus it might well be - "stop the boat people or the illegal refugees, but not the "legitimate" ones". Unfortunately the number of white traitors, libertards, turkeys voting for Chistmas I see, does not fill me with optimism. Yes, the mood has shifted a little as generally the topic can be discussed in more circles without a Socialist calling you a racist, but I think there is still a long way to go before we're at a deportation stage ( the traitors have infiltrated the mechanisms of state and will fight it every step of the way ).

and the website is a fucking quagmire to get through, there's no easy way to just view a calendar of 'what to submit and when', 'how to submit', each link takes you to a whole new page with 7 more links that lead nowhere and provide no information, any information you DO need is hidden. For council tax, the Bham website (which has recently been updated/changed for some reason) requires 6 different links/clicks to get to the 'make a single payment' page, achieved by logging into your BrumAccount, and then into the Council Tax account. The whole process is designed to be as complicated and long as possible so you screw up and they can fine you.

I have a list of companies ( Gilette, McCain, Ben and Jerrys, etc ) who I won't do business with and there is a list of people too. Surprisingly enough it is all the people who I think ( covertly at least ) despise me and what I stand for as a white English hetrosexual male. So I will do everything I can not to fund them. In most situations I have a car and so have options as to whom I spend my money with.
I use the local butchers and bakers ( alas, no candlestick makers ) - and will buy local when I can ( and local means people who share my values ).
