A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

My conspiracy theory is the number of kids people are already having (1 or 2, maybe a 3rd) was always the regular number. We were just told people are having fewer/not enough kids to justify mass immigration to give the illusion of wealth increase whilst also victim-blaming the native populations essentially for not having more children. It's why the "we have too many people" and "we need to bring in infinity immigrants to make up for a lack of people" narratives occurred simultaneously and in direct contrast with one another, because the latter came out to smother the former since a lot of issues being faced in the West can be put almost entirely on bringing in too many people but to stem the tide of immigrants would harm too many interests were the valve to be tightened shut now.

The fertility rate thing also doesn't pass the smell test, given it's only measured from the 1960s onward when census data collection was changed, and in the UK at least we don't know the exact count of many censuses because they've been locked away. The turning point in UK census data collection was 1961, since it was also the first one to make use of a computer for, but it's also been locked away for a hundred years since it was taken so we don't know the actual numbers, which means the people measuring fertility counts also don't know the actual numbers. For one, starting with the 1951 census, they didn't just extrapolate 10% of an area to 100% anymore to get more accurate results. This methodology is is still done in many African countries hence their absurd fertility rates. The perpetual population incline and growth in Africa ignores the myriad civil wars and conflicts that might displace people and doesn't factor in infant mortality bringing those figures down. Any country between the Northern Africa states and South Africa can be pretty much written off as being unreliable as far as demographic data is concerned, many don't even take censuses. In countries which can reliably collect census data (which excludes India and China btw as both as incentivised having high populations on paper for investment), the rate of fertility is between 1-2 kids average.

TLDR: Fertility rate is fake, it's world bank propaganda to justify immigration and blame natives for not doing enough to prop up domestic economies and property prices by pumping out the same number of kids Africans do, which they don't actually because it's based on UN data following trajectories from shitty census data from the 50s that doesn't factor in population displacement or war.

Number of kids people are having is a fake issue. The actual issue is we have too many people as-is and it's not an issue of people having kids it's an issue of bringing too many people in when the country can't properly sustain it. Send them back. A lot of problems (NHS burden, cost of benefits, unemployment and low wages, etcetera) will fix themselves.

I don't really know what to do about it, except to say the old adage of 'strong families, strong communities, etc, etc, etc' that everyone already knows. Even there though you had one or two women who were known to be easy, and to have had lots of kids by wrong'uns. Short of some revolutionary new social structure - We'll call it the New Chunky Man! and the New Salsa Woman! - where you re-order how men and women interact, you're not getting away from the reality that men and women like to have sex with each other. They especially like doing it over and over again if they find a type of man or woman they like, which inevitably results in babies.
It’s porn, innit. Porn being everywhere 24/7, everything being monetised, everything having to be some sort of performance for social media updoots (ps: buy this shit you don’t need). The whole thing has made people sex-obsessed weirdos who believe their ‘human rights’ consist of “whatever I want to do innit”. Add to that, they’re probably filming themselves (or someone’s filming them) for attention and updoots.

We have no interest in our neighbours. Families are just people we have to unwillingly live with. Our friends are all names on a screen, and we isolate ourselves all the times we’re not working, alone in rooms doing stupid performance art for unknown nobodies on the screen. We care more about what the names on the screen think about us than we do about our own kids.

It fucks politics, too. It’s bred extremism. Ideas like Conservatism, Socialism etc were for all people, all members of the population. Now, political ideas have to be for increasingly small groups of specific people, and the idea of making anything other than the death penalty for everyone else seems to horrify people. “They’re evil, they believe the wrong thing, they’re genocidal and racist and hateful and want to destroy the planet”. Bob next door just doesn’t want to pay extra tax, but now he’s a genocidal white old man who probably secretly loves trannies and that’s why he doesn’t believe they should be in women’s sports etc etc. Dora across the road worked her whole life and deserves her pension that’s barely enough to get by on now, but now that makes her responsible for everything bad in the country, and she can fuck off and die. There’s no concept of making political policy or even thought for the majority of people. The people are divided, angrily individualised, demanding, biased and clueless as to real life.

Imagine a country-wide power cut that lasted three days. The nation would go yampy, not because they have no power for working or lighting, but because they’re deprived of their entire social structure when those things only exist online. The idea of communities is alien to so many people now. If their local community isn’t made up of various insular foreigners, it’s inevitably made up of people who only socialise online. It’s an isolated society living in a dreamworld.

How the fuck we get out of that, I have no idea. Make Otterly PM and Null the President of the US, that might go a good way to getting some sort of normality in the corridors of power, anyway.

TL;DR - they have no idea how many people still live here because those leaving the UK aren't declaring they've left, they're just leaving on a different method other than a British Passport, living on savings and making no tax/benefit claims.

Okay something even more hilarious from this article:

> The ONS have been rebuilding the system used to produce official estimates of migration since 2020. Before the pandemic, statisticians asked a small number of passengers at airports and ports about their travel plans and used those responses to work out how many arrivals might be coming to stay.

WTF, we just used to survey people? We didn't we count the number of visas we handed out or check the passport computer things!?

Anarcho tyranny.

Apparently this led to that kerfuffle with the EU resident scheme where because they did these surveys in Heathrow and EU flights tend to fly out of Gatwick they massively underestimated the number of Euros in the country.

Yep, this is why I hate survey based data because WHERE you ask the questions matters.

If I walked outside the guardian offices tonight and asked people on the streets who they're voting for I'd be swamped by Greens voters, which if I extrapolated it to the size of the UK would see the Greens completely crush the next General Election. If I did that same survey in Gateshead I'd be swamped with Reform voters etc.

It's why I'm incredibly suspicious of any election polling data and think the councils will be the best indication of how things will go. Everyone is using their data to their advantage and it's irritating as it's not technically manipulation but it absolutely is.

Yes, but this is the premier government body on data trying to find out data on one of the most electorally important issues of the era, even back in 2010 it was like a top issue.

There should be names taken and people fired for this lack of efficiency. It's almost tantamount to a national security threat.

There's far too much common sense in this thread. I suggest instead we solve our energy needs by burning former employees of tax payer funded entities for energy instead.

It won't work too well but the pension savings means we'll end up ahead.
Can we turn them into peat first?
in their rundown arse-end-of-nowhere town to have him in nursery for the just three days a week her & her husband's work schedules line up poorly it would cost £900 a month.
It’s madness, and that’s out of post tax income. It’s 1500 a month for a full time place here. So unless you’re earning significantly over minimum wage, having two in childcare is impossible. People space them out more than they want to to cope with that, and when you combine that with starting later it results in fewer children per family. And of course none of that applies to those on benefits
It's. Fucking. Cold!
The rain is just turning to sleet round here. Reckon there will be snow by morning. Winter tyres went on last weekend which was a good move. Can I recommend winter tyres to you all? Not just for snow, for wet cold too, once you try them you’ll never go back,

Maybe just turn the Internet off on Sunday and force people at least lounge in their front garden or pub if they're a citycel. Suddenly having browns, gypsies and scum nearby becomes a lot more intolerable without having the Internet to tune them out.

How many of these people that are leaving the country are actually ethnically British though? I’ve always wondered this when I see stats like these.
It's a fair question and I would imagine 80%+ are British White with the rest Eastern Europeans. A lot of the slavs I know/knew have gone back home since covid because the benefits of the wages no longer outweigh the negatives of the lifestyle and living conditions.
They're now not that much better off than living in the countryside, fresh air, nice food, no rapists but are a little worse off financially. It's a no brainer.

I hope to be out of here by next Christmas and I can't blame anyone who moves on to greener pastures.

I feel like if you’re a whuite Briton leaving the country just makes the problem worse for the rest of us. I mean where would you even move to anyway? Unless you have a job lined up, just haphazardly moving to another country doesn’t sound like a good idea.

Me no understand. Me no talk english. oh no, no, no, no speaking the talky england.

If a white leaving Britain makes Britain worse, then it isn't the fault of the guy who can see the writing on the wall. Many people have moved countries to make their lives better and I would rather live in a foreign nation as a second-class citizen, than live as a 3rd world citizen in this country. I would call it my own country but lol, this isn't the country I grew up in and the people aren't the ones I grew up with and around.

If you fuck off overseas then good luck and all that but also may your (lack of) chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countryman

You're not my countryman, you zippy-headed, broccoli-haired wetwipe.
You're part of the problems in this country and enable most of the issues we have.
