A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Here's an easy but not complete list on how labor could beat reform.
End the funding of UK based NGO's who are helping illegals cross the channel. There's enough documentation to show these organizations are willing helping in human trafficking and it sickening.
Deport the illegals that are here regardless of the legitimacy of their claim. You can't tell anyone that between the middle east and Africa there was no safe nations to claim rapefugee status. Make a song and dance about the above and people will like you again.
Free school meals. If the government is forcing you to put your kids in the hands of strangers for eight hours a day, five days a week they should fucking feed your kids for free.
Bring back the fuel allowance, pensioners made up the majority of their voter base it's a slam dunk.
Finish turning our decommissioned coal plants into nuclear power stations. We'd be energy independent in a couple decades and can source the uranium required from from Canada or Australia which for all intense and purpose is UK soil.
Scrap HS2 and return the land back to its original owners.
Let farmers work and scrap inheritance tax because cheap food is good for everyone.

Common sense ideas? Not on Labour's watch!

The only one I disagree with is the Free School Meals, not because it's a bad idea but because children can sadly waste the free meals given to them - at the Primary School near me, according to a friend who helps out at the Breakfast Club, they'll leave most of their breakfasts behind and it mostly all ends up in the bin.

You can't tell the Parents either, because their little pride and joy never does wrong.

Wasting food IMO is unforgivable.

Sadly, this is figurative rather than literal.

He's right, but wonder how many of the people listening realise they're not the ones fighting to save it?
It's more blowhard nonsense about "muh far right" we hear non-stop in the European news. How long have that oh so dangerous far-right been running Sweden and Italy now? "It's a battle for the very future and the heart and soul of our country" is a not subtle warning that attempts to rebel mean you'll be branded as supportive of the far-right, sort of like that unfortunate councillor we had an article on who got smeared as racist for suggesting that maybe council mini-cabs should have cameras in.

If I'm PM and want to cut down illegal immigration via boats but avoid the issue of sinking the boats I'd simply charge any member of the RNLI who has helped to bring a non-Brit into the UK with human trafficking. RNLI will be forced to avoid patrolling the borders and any boat that gets hit by a bad wave gets to be fish food.

But I'm assuming that's a human rights violation on par with the Holocaust or something.

Crazy that this reform council shift had rattled even the BBC, that they are putting stories about Chesterfield being sick of hotels housing illegals. I really don’t think you would’ve got that before last week. The BBC has been massively part of the problem of migrant positive propaganda.

What are the BBC up to with that? Couple of years back they would never have allowed such discourse on there.

Why the sudden change? Are they concerned that Reform are going to get into Government?

They see the compromise coming even they don't know it; they want to get away with a Magna Carta type deal, as they have many times in the past, to head off change on their own terms before it's forced on them. This is part of that subconscious effort.
Soon we'll be getting murmurings of actually doing something about the boatwogs from the libdems or something, whether or not they pull it off will determine whether or not it ends up more Chartist league or War of Three Kingdoms.

Orange nigger can't keep a thought running any better than the shitalians can make trains run on time.
Kudos for "starmah" though.

THEY LET IN THE BEEF Those maniacs!
I'm not even old enough to have proper mad cow derangement but even I know how much jimmy rustling that one'll cause.
I mean they may as well go the whole hog. I know someone who moved to the USA from Scotland in January 2021. She dontates blood and platelets on the regular.

If you're accepting blood products then beef is next logical step.

These guys aren't sailing all the way out from the Mediterranean to reach our shores, they're just crossing the channel, so France really needs to fuck off too for enabling them. It feels like the government are ignoring their contribution for the sake of diplomacy and keeping an open door to re-join the EU. We're letting them sneeze in our faces, and pretending their snot is just appearing out of thin air. We should sink boats, or threaten to at least, whilst loudly reminding people that these boats are coming from French shores so if there's any blood, it's on them (and they'd probably default to blaming the Italians, who'll then blame the NGOs/people traffickers, who'll then blame Libya, who'll then blame the USA for getting rid of Gadhafi who was being paid by the EU to prevent this very thing from happening, etcetera.)
