TL;DR: As it has been explained to me, the reason Anti-Malaria/Anti-Parasite medicines have a slight positive correlation to COVID survival is that it puts your body into "Oh fuck shits bad yo" mode faster by getting your immune system primed and encouraging your cells to suicide before bursting with virii. Your body doesn't recognize COVID as a virus right away, just as junk protein and doesn't go into "attack" mode until there is enough protein to trigger a response.
(This is basically what the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines doe with their mRNA - have your manufacture a bunch of COVID protein to trigger a response and get antibodies generated. J&J uses another substance that makes your immune system go into rage mode called an ajuvant.)
