Petrol car manufacturing already has a massive environmental impact anyway so electric is just reducing that. Just look at the rare metals that go into catalytic converters, it will be a relief not to have to bother with those anymore.

It's kinda one of the upsides of electric...it's like "super flex fuel" in that how the Electricity is generated it's pretty much agnostic to.
that and the byproducts are centralized (at the plant) to be dealt with (responsibly or irresponsibly) as opposed to pumped into the ambient - so you aren't in a design lockin sitch so badly
