Mountain lions are very slowly and stealthily making their way back into the northeast. No wildlife department or conservation group has made evidence that a breeding pair exists public, and I'm not sure they would immediately, but there are a few big cats out there prowling the countryside.
The Taylor Mitchell thing was a coyote though, IIRC the thing was still on scene and it's a total anomaly.
coyotes are kinda everywhere including running down the street.
Mountain lions...on the front range they are decently common so you learn the protocol - same thing don't run from a mountain lion. Hell last year a dude choked one of those fuckers out - most of it is if you see them they are skulking away in the distance (ones that you don't see are probably assessing you - they stalk)
coyotes are way less dangerous though - a good sized dog has the fighting advantage (you just don't want the vet bills)
It's like with sharks when you are diving, they really don't mess with you - stuff happens when people do dumb stuff like chum the water or rub their claspers (the shark version of a dick) as they swim over ya - if things get a little tense swim perpendicular to them (not toward or away so you aren't challenger or prey) with strong strokes.
Predators don't want to fight, they want to eat without getting injured.
It's pretty much "I'm not a good meal...even if you did munch me, you couldn't afford the bill"
That's where John fucks up his I grew up poor, in a lean-to in Miss. act again.
if he gets called out, I'd like to see him use "it was a staffer" (not Frank, that's a different kind of staffer)
