What they call "bias" really means "patterns of behaviour or statistical trends I find personally uncomfortable". Algorithms don't get uncomfortable, so they act on data that says loan prospects from a particular zip code are more likely to default on payments, or that women's resumes are less likely to represent a candidate with the technical qualifications for your company's software engineer opening.

The only way that's a story is if it's in the heat of a closely fought campaign where she's actively lying to voters, which is why I don't understand this whole politician Wu thing at all. The thing is journalist will never out her, and the reason why is quite simple. It's the same reason that Quinn or Sarkeesian could literally do all but the most heinous of shit and no one will call them out on it. They've made the decision to stand behind them against the evil CIS white males who led the harassment campaigns.

If they turn on John an out him/her as the piece of shit they are, that would justify those who have been named as the harassers. The whole house of cards would fall in on itself, as the Journo class that have supported what they consider to be the just side of the argument, would actually have to do some soul searching and admit that the stunning and brave stronk women are actually just a bunch of hacks.

This is why they will never expose John. They can't admit they were wrong. It's better for them to ignore all of his failings, keep the lie rolling so as not to upset their readers and progressive friends that make up their communal hug boxes, and keep spinning the narrative that doesn't fundamentally challenge their world view.

Meanwhile John can add another failure to his list of extensive fails already, game development, political career, transexualism, all thanks to the great White Satan, the CIS non-allied male.

People are finding these threads, they’re finding his wiki, and his lies are being exposed. The media is garbage, we’ve all know that for years. They can keep writing phony puff pieces on John the flimflam man but it doesn’t matter really. He’s just, at this point, tricking rubes to fall for his scampaign and blow money on him.

I tried to think of something -- anything, no matter how trivial -- that John has said that I believe in order to refute your cis white male privilege . . . but I've got nothing. He's been caught lying about everything from the weather to the time of day.
 
I read Wu's accomplice Cory Doctorow's latest novel Walkaway last winter. It's an odd book really. There's no real prose style or descriptions or anything, just dialogue of smart characters smugly teaching naive characters that anarchism works. The good guys are "walkaways" cast out of cities where the middle class live and live in communes in rural areas which are no mans land. The cities send soldiers to kill them. The good guys have magic 3d printers that make anything from mud, like food and clothes. it seems he has a particular obsession with middle aged IT nerds being accepted as friends and partners by hip early 20s aged nerds, and it being seen as normal. Every character is bi/pan sexual, poly etc. Lots of lesbian sex scenes.

I actually found it readable and enjoyable mostly. If a bit cringey and simple in it's view. I'd like to say it's "the cringiest social justice themed book I've read by someone Bri Wu likes", but for some reason I also read Charlie Jane Ander's "all the birds in the sky". Oh brother.

There is a fun thought experiment about what what the Technological Singularity means to the DRC, where 98% of the country has no electricity and the remaining 2% has electricity for something like 6 hours a day.

Anyway, John is right. We need to make sure AI knows to recongize blacks so its easier to track them when they commit crimes.
