This ball shrinking reads literally like downtime/hangover code. Shit you do when you tinker because there's nothing better to do.

And there's literally nothing to it. Grab a value that represents temperature, check its range, return a new size of object based on that, resize said 3D object.

Gaming media ran with it like it's some kind of miracle or a "we could have cured cancer but no, horse balls!" stories because gaming media is stupid and blind leading eager and stupid.

To be honest, it sounds like she read the article this tweet refers to, and wanted to rewrite the narrative so the straight white guy was the villain.

(The story is also interesting for what's turned up about the woman in question after she'd proven insufferable in the first article.)

That's how I, and probably everyone else he, caught him lying his ass. Whenever he starts bragging about having done I sometimes decide to check it out. Dismantling the engine cover for a Porsche of his type turns out to be no big deal. He bragged about platinuming Final Fantasy 13 until I dediced to check, an no, no platinum, not even close.
What really set the alarm bells ringing was when he technobabbeled about how he homogenized normals in 3D topography of models blah-blah-blah or something like that. Being a sane person I didn't believe him but I had not considered the level of incompetence required to mess that ship up, so I looked at the assets in Rev60 and they were a nightmare for so many reasons, the fucked up normals was just the tip of the iceberg.
I made a post about it and instead of cherry picking the worst of the worst I just settled for the first four or so that I saw, no further digging was necessary to prove what a hack and fraud Wu was.
