This is something a man-child buys.

For $299 I can’t imagine the build quality of the cabinet, the controls, or the screen are that great. It seems like it combines all of the disadvantages of a cheap DIY rig and all the disadvantages of an obnoxious and unauthentic looking arcade cabinet all in one. Nothing weird about two middle aged men with a filthy house full of toys, right?

I predict that John will soon become disenchanted with this rig and have Frank pony up for an original or one of the more deluxe $3-4K arcade cabinets.

An autist with some pride would either get an original cabinet and restore it if needed, or maybe just get the original case and build a Raspberry Pi into it and hack the existing controls to run off it, like there are dozens of DIY instructions all over the net on how to do.

That would at least be something an actual nerd would do. Something that John is not.
 
And by the way, John's use of "achievement unlocked" to describe buying something (with someone else's money, no less) really captures his mentality perfectly in two words.
