Did someone Photoshop Wu's teeth out, or does every picture I see of them just get worse.

John has probably read our comments on his yellow niblets -- something seldom seen in upper-middle-class Americans -- and is trying to conceal them. As usual when it comes to appearances, he doesn't realize that the attempt fails miserably, in this case making look toothless.

Wu didn't overperform; Lynch underperformed.
I just don't see this as a race where anyone "performed" at all. It's more like those polls where they say "Who would you vote for, Trump or Generic Democrat?" Wu played the "Generic Primary Challenger" in this race. You can get an indication of the electorate's general mood from that, but all bets are off when the rubber hits the road.

I agree, and to the extent that I conveyed something else, I miswrote. I don't think Wu got ~25% for any reason to do with Wu. I think Wu and Viehl demonstrated that a good challenger might be able to pick up that seat in future, Maybe.

Yeah, I think Warren might have been a little more on the money than I gave him credit for--it looks like there is a sizeable portion of the electorate that is dissatisfied with Lynch, or at least wants something new. And somebody posted a Reddit thread where some idiot admitted to voting for Wu because they thought he was some other Asian lady, and it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case for others as well.

It's too bad Wu didn't win, really. Brianna Wu vs. The Republican Party would have been a battle for the ages. Like that battle where the Austrian army got drunk and mistook their own regiments for the enemy and shot the shit out of each other.

I know Wu is pretending like 2020 will be her year but this was the time to do it. An election with a lot of progressive excitement where she got non-stop friendly media coverage across the country. Two incumbents in her state got beat.

Instead she farted around for the first year blowing campaign funds on an office she never used, trips to California, and crap from Ikea and Amazon for herself. When she did sort of start taking the campaign serious, she alienated every worker and became obsessed with telling the world about her Porsches.

2020 is a Presidential election and the media will be heavily focused on that. She just isn't going to get the same media coverage or financial support. Plus there is always a chance a real progressive candidate swoops in and runs against Lynch stealing her thunder.

Why did Chris Voehl receive so few votes in what has been a zero effort race on all sides?
If there is a large contingent in MA-8 ready to support anyone but Lynch, what makes them consistently vote for a Porsche driving tranny over a military veteran?

Voehl didn’t campaign much, even less than John who only ventured out into the sun to hunt for more flesh suits when cameras were following.

Voehl showed up at a debate that neither Lynch nor John attended. I don’t think he attended any conventions or dem meetings. He didn’t spend much money at all so who knows what he was up to.

Female and Asian name. "Progressives" have no problem voting based solely on gender and/or race. You know, stuff that shouldn't matter. They see a name that is female and Asian (despite John being neither of those) and they choose that over the other two options, that are both white males. I think it's as simple as that.

I found it funny that when I turned on some news channel I heard about the upset win of a woman over an incumbent democratic rep in an MA primary challenge. She had campaigned, in part, on the fact that her identity would better qualify her over an older white man even if he had been in office for some time. And she'll be the first black congresswoman in MA I believe (Ayanna Pressley). Wu has to see that coverage and just snarl.

I like how the first thing he lists is "more money".

So, what you're saying is... if Brianna actually campaigned more, she'd have less votes?

What you folks don't realize is that Lynch's last serious challenger was the president of a major union, and only got 24%.
Just like Wu got this year with zero unions and zero organizations.
The "anti-Lynch vote" is 18%. Voehl got 5%.
That means Wu got another 6%+5%=11% more than the anti-Lynch vote.
Either due to me, my friends, and/or her own skills.
Moo ha ha ha ha ha!!!

Look at that, he's got the evil laugh and everything. Would you vote for a candidate who has an evil sidekick?

Yeah, fun fact, Lynch got almost exactly the same number of votes this election as when he ran unopposed in 2014. Wu got almost exactly the same number of votes as the number of people who cast a blank ballot in 2014. I think it's reasonable to conclude that most people didn't actually vote for Wu, but against Lynch.

Holy shit, Wu managed to get into the double digits despite the fact that the joint Gamergate/Russian terrorist group known only as Neo Deagle Nation was working to intimidate all xer voters and hack the machines to send fake write in votes for Jace Connors.

So, what you're saying is... if Brianna actually campaigned more, she'd have less votes?

Absolutely. Nobody could look at Wu and vote for her. You'd only do it if you had her mixed up with someone else, or if you were so apathetic you literally just picked the one with the Asian name to be progressive.
