And, as always with John, it's factually incorrect because his tiny, drug-addled brain finds Wikipedia definitions too subtle for comprehension.

Queensberry's rules were not the first "formalized" rules of boxing and they did not turn boxing into a "civil" sport. Previous rules were formalized, but were local or regional in their effect. And more than 500 boxers have died in the ring since Queensberry made the sport "civil."
