Ok maybe its just me being over suspicious , cos John, but that photo of the damage that needs fixing...

That whole photo screams of the garage asking the client in to have a look over the damage done/repairs needed, before agreeing the quote/price and starting the work.
Which just doesn't happen if you are the not-at-fault party as the price will have been agreed with the insurance company's loss adjusters.

If John was the not at fault party, that photo wouldn't need to exist.

There was also a super sweet case of a dev who designed an entire new control system because a Brother wrote a review about how much his disabled younger brother loved watching him play, but he couldn't because he could only use one hand. They redesigned the whole thing so the kid could join in and play too.

I never once attended the garage when I bumped my car and needed most of the front end replacing (wasn't my fault, ice and some moron parking on a blind bend when they had a snow cleared drive to stick their car on) and not once was I asked down to approve any work.

John's clearly getting this done privately without the insurers knowing, and probably at far greater expense than if they went through them.

I knew a guy who bought a second hand Aston Martin once complete with a first year complementary service and clean. He was so impressed he sent it off for the same again and agreed to pay for it.
