In 1977, the year John was born, the state of the art was DES. Now, in The Current Year, cracking DES is something security researchers do for fun in their spare time.
To which one could say "Fine, we'll just make people update their keys and algorithms as needed." But what do you do if they don't, lock them out of the system? Who's going to be the one to go around to all the old folks' homes and tell them that they need to create a new set of keys because someone invented the hypercosmic quantum computer and the old ones are now too weak?

The whole thing isn't an awful idea but the fact that she thinks she's the first person to toy with the feasibility of such a system is good evidence she isn't equipped to help make it happen in any way. Her first non technical challenge would be dealing with the large part of our government who think civilians shouldn't have strong encryption....unless it's to keep them from copying movies (Feinstein)

Shatner tends to have some experience with the neo-contratians that gives him an insight his former co-workers don't really share.

I don't know full details, but on one of the recent shows he really enjoyed - Outlander, a crazy group of tumblr shippers got into the fandom to obsess over some characters to a degree that they insisted the actual actors for those characters are dating. Said actors are not involved with each other, and are happilly married with other people, but they get harassed a lot by this weird delusional shipper base.

It's worth noting he won't get involved in political matters, he firmly points to his canadian background when people try, and generally notes he's quite happy to not vote nor gripe about who's in charge. If only more celebs were like that these days.
 
Well, I didn't expect Captain Kirk of all people to give a cold-logic blow to Wu, then deliver a knock-out to a foolish asspatter.

Those screen caps, even now, are stunning to look at.
 
so brianna wu has been doing the same thing they always do (say dumb shit then get called out by other dumb people) but this time it was by the fattest of the star trek captains
