It's pretty automatic here, and usually on a schedule unless you're doing it part-time and random courses now and then. But you usually need a certain number of credits and a certain number of credits in your major, and each major also has courses that are hard required, like needing six credits in math or whatever, even for liberal arts majors. However, they usually have some tard math for tards that those can take.I don't know how it works in US universities, but where I'm from you have to formally apply for a degree. So maybe he just never applied for one since he never went out and got a real job anyway?
If you can't figure it out on your own, they also even have people whose job it is to help these speds.
