Nobody asked him to get involved in any of these things. He just decided that he was the expert on everything in the world and it was his job, nay his duty, to step in and save everyone from themselves. Which would be fine, except he’s lazy, incompetent, nowhere near as smart as he thinks and only in it for glory.
