Although John has probably only sold somewhere in the region of 50 copies of his magnum opus aka the biggest abortion of a game since E.T., it's incredible to me that his Patreon is still at a fairly robust $1,600 or so per month. Despite very clearly having done nothing the last two years, he is making the functional equivalent of 160 sales of R60 per month (assuming Patreon and Steam take the same kind of cut).

I know his Patreon has been slowly bleeding out every month (a sort of electronic surrogate to a real period perhaps), but even so, John has raked in at least $40,000 in the last two years, which is more than triple the kickstarted money. This is where he has really taken his supporters/enablers for a ride, not the kickstarter itself.

The bit I find particularly telling is that now it's so demonstrably clear his Patreons have indeed been taken for a ride, they still sit in place as willing participants. Cognitive dissonance is a powerful drug.

So, Flynt has actually "sold" several thousand copies of his game, and will continue to "sell" the equivalent of over a hundred copies a month. This might seem quite galling until you remember three key things.

1. It is likely the case that a huge percentage of the Patreon cash is actually from John himself, puffing up the figure with some kind of weird self-applied fractional reserve banking type of scenario.

2. Even if all funds were legit, John has spent an order of magnitude more money to make what little he has done (and $40,000 in two years is pretty pathetic).

3. His professional credibility to all but the most dyed in the wool SJW acolytes is irreparably damaged.

Of course, technically it's all been Frank's money. It's a bit like a parent putting a dollar into those small, coin operated little rides outside stores while the kid sits there pretending to be an F1 driver or an astronaut. Except instead of a dollar it's half a million dollars. And the parent is Frank. And the kid is a 40 year old, severely mentally disturbed man. And the ride never ends.

The biggest mystery for me is why Frank has chosen to marry John and spend all this money. He's clearly a massive sped, but he's self-imposing such a monstrous existence on himself.

Time will tell. The game's just come out, and many patrons may not be watching him that closely.

Here's a theory - one reason John didn't hype the game so much was that he hoped some of his patrons didn't pick up on it. The current patrons have gotten used to donating money monthly without seeing the game, so if they weren't paying close attention to his Twitter they may not have even noticed yet.

My only answer to this is that Frank has a hidden dark side.

I heard about another case where a quite attractive, successful man married a woman who seemed significantly below his league, and a lot of people thought there was something strange or off about them. It turned out the man was a serial child molester and the wife was an accomplice. The reason for Frank marrying John may be that John does something for him or allows him to do something that no one else is willing to.

Frank's not exactly a looker, but he's got connections high up in the geek culture, so I'd figure he could get with any number of women who are aspiring artists or authors or something, women who have both more creative talent and better looks and personalities than John. When I consider what John could offer that no other woman could, the only thing I can think of is that he's willing to do something for Frank that would cause most people to NOPE out. We know John's morality is entirely self-centered, so I can easily see him going along with Frank if Frank was committing crimes or doing something unethical.

This is quite plausible. John must have known the game would be dead on arrival. Maybe he figured a sneaky, subdued release wouldn't shit on his Patreon numbers too much. Like silently breaking wind in an elevator. The rest of the people in there with you will smell something's not right, but won't clamber out at the next floor in the way they would if you had loudly and proudly blasted that fucker into existence.

I've seen this said before, or variants of it (i.e. Frank is a massive control freak and gets off on knowing he could completely end John in a heartbeat). It's unsatisfying because it implies John is able or willing to do something or provide something that others aren't. We know that isn't the case in any other area of Johns life. The fact that Frank was married to an actual woman previously, who aired dirty laundry about them, makes me think there's not something hideously wrong with Frank either (like malformed penis or some huge insecurity/complex).

Maybe Johns parents agreed to give Frank some huge chunk of their wealth in their Will just to get John off the streets and out of their hair, but again, Frank is not exactly struggling for money.
