There was a single Republican Governor in John's entire time there. (And he got a Democrat Lt. Governor upon re-election.) The Democrats held every other state elective office (except State Auditor briefly) and completely dominated the state legislature and House delegation (except a brief two-year period) until the late-2000's after John had left. The state voted for Republicans for President and Thad Cochran held one of the Senate seats forever but even John's favorite Trent Lott didn't get elected until after John would have already been indoctrinated.

Also, wasn't John hanging around and doing activism for all the Blacks in the state during this time? He was indoctrinated into the right-wing but was working with and assisting the most important Democratic voter bloc in the state?
