The fact that there are still people out there who are obsessed with gamergate is insane to me. It’s really fucking sad and really does illustrate how far we still have to go as a society. Gamers are treated like social outcasts that only like terrible video games for terrible reasons. People still say “I know nothing about GamerGate” and that’s still the case for most people. “Gamer” is a term that still makes people uncomfortable. No one is willing to publicly admit to having an interest in this topic and those that do are shunned. In a way, gaming has never really been an accepted hobby, despite it being the foundation of most of modern society.

No one wants to admit that they play video games, let alone are part of a community that gets together and has fun playing them. If you do, you’re not taken seriously as a gamer anymore. A lot of it has to do with the rise of media and the internet.

I had to stop reading the thread at "most human portrayal they've ever had in media." Just the idea of it, since the only portrayal they've had has always been from the point of view of the "victims." I genuinely hope john makes this product, and we can all laugh at it together, like a family.

No, in my experience that is complete bullshit.
There was no trace of it, in fact. It was edgy as fuck, indies especially. Minimal on nigger words because people are trying to network and be chill with each other, maybe, and sensitive in ways that we make a point of avoiding as today's edgesters because the well has been poisoned, but I have no fucking clue where you're getting this from. This is the industry that we're pissed about this stuff invading BECAUSE suddenly all the tranny jokes and tits in games disappeared overnight, so I think you are very full of shit!

Now what did happen is a lot of the core kingmakers and industry gatekeepers suddenly took the pill, so anybody who used to be cool who had a career or wanted into the magical world of being treated like shit at industry events either had to pretend they were woke all along or went quiet for a while, and the corporates obviously went where the wind was blowing. But at least as far as those specific communities go you only have to look at guys who didn't need to take the shit like Notch or Edmund for what the vibe used to be. (And preemptively: on the off chance one of them has trooned out since the last time I paid attention don't waste time pointing it out since that's not the point of the example.)
