Wait wait wait. Wu is saying that no, Samus isn't actually a woman, she's transexual. Justin comes in to tell her she's wrong, and Wu claims that Justin is the one committing erasure?
Wu, you're erasing Samus as a female character! What about her agency?! I thought you wanted more female characters, and now you're saying that one of the most badass women in gaming isn't a woman, because she had a sex change when she was a baby?

The Chloe conversation is still fascinating to me because it shows a couple of things about Brianna. First is that she is able to recognize crazy and avoid it when she's not worked up over something. Second, and probably the most damning long-term, is her complete unwillingness to admit she's transgendered even when the person she's speaking to knows about it and alludes to it.

This conversation hurt me physically. I'm reliving those horrible moments from the early 2000s when all those fangirls ran around insisting that Zelda grew a penis and balls when she put on her Sheik disguise. There's no evidence to support either of those claims, and yet people will move heaven and earth to argue in favor of them simply because it makes them feel better.
This is the same bullshit that happens when the comic industry ret-cons a popular superhero to be gay or a woman or something else "progressive". Instead of building new characters with these traits they just take the easiest route possible by slapping a new label onto an already established icon. Wu could actually put legitimate trans characters in her game, but that's too hard. So instead she's just going to shit all over three decades of established lore.

I think what's happening with some of these instances (and especially in Wu's case) is they don't actually care about a gay or trans or whatever character; they just want their chosen character to be that particular label. Wu wishes she was Samus Aran and, if Samus was trans, it just makes her even better as an escapist fantasy character. What makes all of this funny is that Brianna is desperately trying to attach a label to Samus that she doesn't even want to give herself.

It was basically a bunch of people screaming "I'm not a lesbian!" all over DA and what have you.
Wu wants Samus to be secretly trans because it justifies her own life. "Oh, look at this strong female character who has really been trans this whole time and fooled all of us for nearly thirty years! She's totally me, you guys!"
