Presentation / Lightning Talk
THE CHANGING STATE OF THE GAMES INDUSTRY
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Brianna Wu is a game developer, leading a mostly female team, creating games which challenge the status quo. As a result of her success she has been targeted by a hate group. Join her discussion on how this became a catalyst, leading her to join the ranks of women leading the charge against sexism in the games industry, and fighting for more inclusion and diversity in the tech community overall.
Let's fire up the John Flynt Lie Counter, shall we?
  1. Brianna - John
  2. Wu - Flynt
  3. game - meandering QT event
  4. developer - Tweeter
  5. mostly - it's just John by himself
  6. female - male
  7. games - this is, impressively, two lies in one word; not a game and not plural
  8. challenge the status quo - John does sponsored tweets for Korean car companies led solely by men
  9. her - his
  10. success - utter failure
  11. she - he
  12. targeted - responded to his relentless trolling
  13. hate - not agreeing with
  14. group - non-organized individuals
  15. her - his
  16. discussion - incoherent, one-sided harangue
  17. catalyst - he and Frank planned this as a marketing strategy
  18. leading - publicly snubbed by his cohort
  19. her - his
  20. join - forced his way in and was eventually snubbed
  21. women - crazy tranny dudes
  22. leading - an army of one
  23. sexism - more men work in computers than women
  24. fighting - whining from his iPhone on his dog-eaten couch
  25. inclusion - hating everyone who disagrees with him
  26. diversity - John is a white male shitlord
So that's 27 with the double lie in item #7, plus one more for repeatedly calling this regular talk a "keynote". Twenty-eight lies in just seventy words, or nearly one lie every other word.

That's our John.

If you keep saying every appearance you make is the "best one of your career" then that phrase kind of loses all meaning, don't you think? I'd think someone who studied business would know more than one way to sell themselves to people.

About 1/5 of US engineers are women, so it's idiotic and misogynist to posit that none have made contributions nor will make contributions in the future.

It's also offensive and blazingly stupid to say that engineers build society. We all build society.

But considering you're neither a woman nor an engineer, this sexist, offensive, and illogical tweet is par for the course.

And may I add that "Bri for Vendetta" is gibberish, immature, and absurd? You incessantly yap about being a "leader" and "professional", yet you act like a teenage boy.

Of all the stupid shit Brianna has spouted, this is a great candidate for top 5. How are engineers building society? Does she really think that their job description is metaphorical or something?

There are a dozen other profession who fit the description of "society builders" far better (upper government officials, teachers, social workers, police officers to name a few) although it is something all (or almost all) members of society contribute to in one way or another.

And this moronic, non-sensical tweet got 27 re-tweets and 36 favorites in 45 minutes. So I guess these people either just press the button without bothering to read what Bri-Bri is saying (maybe bots? wishful thinking) or they are so dumb I don't even know how they remember to breath

I almost wonder if, as we know Wu is likely to read this, the V for Vendetta reference is a poke in our collective kiwi eyes.
Think about this:

V is a terrorist, even if one with idealism. Anonymous appropriated his mask, a group whose aims are nothing Wu would be sympathetic to, being as how Wu seems too dense to see outside of the structured system of power in place in the USA, despite her supposed progressive posturing.

Example: I would think it would be more in line with the uber-hardline liberalism Wu paints herself as supporting to dismiss Hillary as readily as Trump, seeing as how its all business as usual, and wholly corporate.

But as someone said, Wu's not a true believer, she's a scam-artist, albeit one who's massive personal problems (crippling identity disorder, reactionary narcissism, pathological inability to tell the truth, projection of weaknesses onto convenient scapegoats, social-climbing lack of loyalty, etc. ad infinitum) make her ability to sell-out thoroughly compromised.

This capitalist scamming places her at odds with the borderline communist SJW stalwarts; Anita is playing much the same game, but is much more socially maneuverable and without the painful awkwardness and flailing need to be relevant and liked that gives Wu that air of sweaty, grasping desperation. Wu always seems, in interviews or conversations which he sees as friendly, to too-quickly try to establish a camaraderie and casualness that is wholly unprofessional and out-of-place; the awkward discussion of the plastic dragons and the ensuing repeated WuFace rictus horrors come to mind.

In any case, I'd love to see an analysis of Wu by a professional. But I really don't see V having any appeal, other than the most superficial "lone hero against the hordes" that endeared the Batman to her as well. Yet another proof that, for all her poses of depth and idealism, Wu is very, very shallow.

@GleamingTheQ-Bert it's much simpler than that, and the reason is this:

You incessantly yap about being a "leader" and "professional", yet you act like a teenage boy.

John has the plebbiest of pleb taste and has just latched on to something COOL and EXTREME and now has decided to temporarily make it part of his identity because he is autistic and immature. No offence to anyone who actually likes V for Vendetta (either the movie or the comic), of course, but hopefully you're not the sort that still goes around in the Guy Fawkes mask and is all we r leejun hurr

I is not legion?

The Epic Fail Guy mask was intended as a joke. For a while, the people using it were even in on the joke.

Wu's obliviousness is exemplified by steadfast support for outright evil companies like Electronic Arts, which have been despised for literally decades in the gaming community for predatory practices and ripping off customers while treating their own employees like utter shit. Just supporting EA marks Wu as an outsider. Nobody supports EA but EA and Wu.

The only person I know of who ever made saying every show they did was their best was Steven Colbert on his twitter feed. And that's because in-character, Steven Colbert was a fucking idiot.

Recall that we're talking about someone whose participation in society is almost entirely through Twitter and IPhone apps. For her, engineers make world-changing decisions all the time. Much more often than people dealing with pleb issues like taxes, employment, or regulations. One cubicle dweller pushing out the latest build of Peggle has more impact on Brianna's life than any public official.

No, Holiday is Wu's self-insert. Main character/voicebox from SOCCON and hasn't changed a bit in over a decade in any way. Plus, Holiday is the hero that people totally are throwing themselves in front of to prevent dying in R60. And is all about the motorcycle despite the game itself pointing out she's fucking useless in that specialty in her own job. It's totally Wu
Nah you have to look further back to Election Eve, which features Holiday and Minuete but the 3rd character is Brea Anatamata (sound familiar?), all 3 reappear in R60 as futuristic redesigns but Bri…sorry "Brea" has changed into Crimson.

Looking at Goth Wu "The Godzilla of Feminisim" you know she doesn't want to be the goody goody anyway, she wants to be the kickass cool bad guy.

I've been looking over Wu's tweets about feminism, and I think I know why so many fresh dupes are willing to believe Wu is seriously concerned about women and not just a man in girlface playing pretend:

For one, on some level, Wu has drunk his own koolaid quite a bit, even when it was to his extreme disadvantage, and has been willing to die on some pretty stupid feminist hills and is still doing so as I type this, so to the unwashed, Wu looks sincere, as as long as you aren't horribly naive or Sarkeesian level aware of being in on your own con, Wu looks like he knows what he's talking about.

Problem is, unlike Sarkeesian, who has perfected the method of looking and sounding reasonable while spouting shallow bullshit and letting all the people who know she's full of shit reinforce her BS by overreacting to her BS, Wu is obviously insane but spouts so much shallow bullshit in such huge quantities that it partially obscures how much Wu is unhinged, making Wu look slightly loopy but well meaning as long as they don't look beneath the surface, and to be fair to Wu, he picked a good crowd of gullible sheep to fleece, as they rarely look beneath the surface of these con artists to begin with.

Granted, Wu has occasionally made massive fuckups that make even most of the sheep realize Wu is bugfuck crazy (like the Samus is a tranny incident), but for the most part Wu sticks to being a fountain of whatever SJW feminists memes are in vogue at the moment.

This eventually ends at Wu's narcissism overcomes his discretion and he does something really stupid for attention, which basically resets the cycle back to square one, at least until his insatiable urge to be the center of attention beats what little common sense he has unconscious and he does another stupid stunt for publicity.

I thought Bri Stupidlastname was who became Unknown? And I dunno about Crimson being the main bad guy, even if plot wise that's what R60 is trying to indicate. Going back to EE, Flynt's had it out for the "World Domination" seeking Minnie since day one and recalling what I know of how Wu's regarded Minnie, both the suggested "personal" and "fan favorite" ending paths both are siding against Minnie even though as far as I can tell, there is not one reason to pick the side against her rather than for her.
