You know, this really bugs me. I was watching the first Silent Hill movie and commented to my GF that the story was mostly from the first SH game, with bits of SH 2 thrown in, but that the character's gender had been switched. I mentioned that it didn'y really bother me, because I can identify with a protagonist regardless of gender, and also the main character physically reminded me of Heather from SH 3.
I thought to myself, "This is exactly the reason why I'll never understand this idea that we need protagonists to be our OWN gender, or sexual orientation, or whatever. The more I think about it, the less I understand:
These people, like Brianna and Anita, etc, are the ones telling us that the "gender binary" is bullshit, that there exist MORE than just 2 opposing genders, right?
I find behavior such as this, and in many ways, the very concept of being transgender to be at odds with this idea of a spectrum.
If these people "see past" this "primitive" concept of gender as a diptych, then why are they so eager to change their own gender to the other of the two? Think about it; if you don't believe only two genders exist, then why can't you just be an effeminate guy? Or a manly girl? Or a manly guy who has stereotypically "girly" interests?
It's as if this idea of seeing beyond the gender binary is total bullshit, and people like Wu just feel as though life will be easier if they're on the other team.
A bad example: If only 2 hair colors existed, black and blonde, and you told everyone you were beyond the "follicle binary", would you really dye your hair the other color? No, you would either: deal with your hair color, understanding that, hey, it's just a color...it doesn't identify you as a whole....or maybe you would shave your head. What you wouldn't do is just dye your hair the color you weren't born with, and then preach about the oppressiveness of the follicle binary.
A more concrete explanation: If Wu really thinks life is so much worse for women, and we know he chose to "become" this half-assed frankensteinization of a woman, why would he do this? Why would anyone join what they saw as the losing team? I think it's quite the opposite; Wu sees women as the winning team, and certainly the more accepted and accepting one....that's the REAL reason he lopped off lil' Wu.
He doesn't see beyond gender, he's just unhappy with the hand he was dealt. In fact, he's so obsessed with gender that he only intakes and identifies with media and entertainment that comes tailored to his team. Think just how close-minded this is...
I've read books and watched films with female protagonists, and protagonists of many races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, etc.
There is a shared experience of the common humanity of man which transcends these petty divisions.
Calvin & Hobbes was my favorite comic strip as a kid; the beauty and truth of these simple drawings and conversations goes far beyond the idea of the strip's protagonist being a boy.
Wu: you're a vulgar cretin; you have nothing of art in your soul, and you hate yourself. Every word out of your mouth divides the human race into further narrow subdivisions. But you know what?
We're not like you: we can read and enjoy and understand and laugh and cry and wonder about characters in books, films, comics, and games....regardless of their gender or race.
The very fact that you require media to reflect your "gender of choice" shows just how much a narcissistic sociopath you are.

This to me is what it all boils down to. A truly great story (e.g. Calvin and Hobbes) crafts characters that are so meaningful that you can empathise with them, even if they are only drawings on a page, words in a book, or pixels in a game. The superficial characteristics may lend some additional gravitas to people who happen to share those characteristics, but we don't still read Romeo and Juliet because we're DAMN CIS WHITE HETERO people, we read it because Shakespeare was a poetic genius who wrote about a topic that is universally understood.
It's therefore not shocking that John and co. act the way that they do. They don't know what it means to empathise, whether with fiction or with other people. Hence, they behave like shitty human beings who screw each other over and are never happy.

Because characters should not be or revolve around their gender, race, or orientation. That's how boring, dull, and annoying characters are made. Like FemThor, or the Gay Lantern.

Agreed Delta is my preferred airline I don't know what the fuck she's on, also if you're silver status or higher they will lick your butt (since she's like a big important keynote speaker who is always on the road right?). Some of the smaller airlines beat them once in awhile but they're the best international/nationwide. Let's not even get into their list of awards, the attendants who actually seem happy, delta one cubicles.. fuck you bri. Lol united isn't really that bad either.
I've encountered this with lots of transgendered people. I think that they're really seeking an outlet for their femininity or some external validation of their female status and with many feminist organizations already being somewhat comfortable with LGBT issues they join up. I would not actually be shocked if years down the road it's decided that all the SJW and "feminism" if you want to call it that is actually being driven by the huge wave of trans people trying to find a way to be a woman.

There is a lot of entertainment on the internet and it's also useful for getting things in order for when you land or doing work.
I see what's happening here. Jetblue has a heavy presence in that neck of the woods between boston and new york they have flights to most of the country for very cheap. They're ok to fly to I don't really have complaints but they're not nearly as good as delta or united they're a discount carrier. She thinks delta is a greedy company that wants to rip her off because she doesn't understand why they're often so much more expensive than jetblue but it's because they're discount and she happens to be sitting on their 2nd largest hub. She probably has barely flown anywhere except directly to and from boston and jfk.
This makes me wonder what kind of compensation she's actually getting for these speaking engagements. If they're paying her way all of this shit would not bother her at all.
This is maybe the first generation of americans who won't have it better than their parents but nobody is putting timmy in the coal mines to get polio braces for little suzy.

According to Delta's website, there is a two-segment flight from San Francisco (SFO) to Boston Logan (BOS) today. The layover is in Detroit (DTW).
The SFO-DTW segment departed its SFO gate at 11:35 am Pacific time and arrived at its DTW gate at 7:00 pm Eastern time.
One can see two consecutive tweets in John's timeline - an earlier one to @MizDanaClaire and a latter one to @Georgia_Dow and @Rhoulette.
The earlier tweet posted at 11:39 am Pacific time - four minutes after John's flight left its gate at SFO and presumably right before it left the ground.
The latter tweet posted at 7:59 pm Eastern time (in the tweet image, it shows 4:49 pm Pacific time).
The second leg of John's flight left its DTW gate at 7:36 pm Eastern time.

I'm reporting her to twitter for not putting her phone in airplane mode during takeoff and landing.
It's hilarious to think that I normally use my phone to buy gogo and manage to pull it off no problem. She just misread the website and instead of happily tweeting all flight she's pouting into her pretzel bag. I wonder how wasted she is that she wasn't able to read gogo's website on her ipad.
She could actually get gogo for like $5(1.5hr) - $7(all day) if she just bought the "mobile" pass and then bridged the connection, then frank could get on too for like less than a cup of coffee between the two of them. She's a Software Engineer so it shouldn't be hard for her to figure out.
