>quite an accomplishment

I'd consider being a game developer that has at least one successful game on the market to be an accomplishment, because that actually requires skill and competence so you can move past the competition.

Playing a fucking mobile game that has microtransactions that give you an edge? Not so much an accomplishment.

More than a edge you can steamroll the game buying superior ships and getting rare crew in the gacha , that's not a accomplishment is just wasting money

Wu operates on a bastardized Worthington's Law, where a person who has more Twitter followers than you/pays more to be ranked higher in stupid pay to win cell phone games than you is better than you, and therefore above criticism.

For example, the Christian Science Monitorreported this month that video game developer Brianna Wu has to employ a security detail and was once forced to flee her home because of the unending barrage of graphic, specific threats she receives from “the Manosphere” due to the “Gamergate” and MRA movement

I think this writer is even nuttier than Wu, and just making up crazy things for Wu to say.

I wish mobile games were more transparent with the pay-to-play shit. I've been trying to find a way to get an estimate on how much she's spent on this one for the tracker. If I had to guess, it's at least $200 which does seem to match her prior "minimums" on these mobile games.

When you have to tell people that something is an accomplishment, it really isn't an accomplishment- it's just a cry for relevancy.

Ahh Buzzfeed - making Gawker look like an actual news outlet by comparison.

And yeah, look at the author's list of amazing journalism she has provided the masses. Not milking the Social Justice cow, no sir.

They're selling you the illusion that you're actually good. Why would they undercut that by telling everyone you're really a loser who blew 5 grand on some shitty phone game?

If this is anything like the F2P game I played on my phone for a time, getting into the top leaderboard brackets is impossible if you're playing "for free".

You can keep track of cooldown timers to the second and get zero sleep, but in that 24 hour period you will generate less points in the same amount of time than the people who pay money by margins that make being mathematically eliminated from contention within the first day of a 7 day competition inevitable unless you bust out the plastic.

This is all by design of course, but as a result saying that what John did here was an "accomplishment" of video gaming skill rings as cavernously hollow as saying someone using an aimbot getting a lot of kills is an accomplishment.

Unfortunately, I haven't played THIS mobile game at all, but I've been the sort of sucker that has disposable income and readily makes poor decisions at times with it. The worst I've been was with one game where I was about ~1800 USD into it over the period of a year and was barely holding top-10 on my SERVER, not even the GLOBAL boards, which didn't exist when I was still playing.

Take it with a grain of salt, but keeping up or rising in rank requires a constant sink of money to keep at your best, because once you stop feeding the game, you're going to slip further and further behind.

Just to put my above figure into some perspective:

The siege of Lenningrad lasted 21,600 hours. So Wu is half way through that.

Is there anyone who can go into detail about how much money matters for Star Trek Timelines?

The fact that people who pay $10/month do better than the people who play for free isn't a problem. It becomes a really big problem when you can iterate that, so the $20/month people always do better than the $10/month people, and the $30/month people out do them, and so on without limit.

I finally know what Wu means by Godzilla of tech feminism. He's going to do to tech feminism what Godzilla did to Tokyo in the first movie.

She screams a lot, spews out toxic crap that infects people, and generally makes a giant mess of things.

EDIT: misread that as you asking WHY she calls herself that. My bad.
