I think it's getting obvious that REV60:SE PC edition will
never be released, but be in perpetual development, imminent release hell.
If any of you are familiar with the Black Swan theory, Nassim Taleb describes the counter-intuitive situation;
The further a project slips pasts it's deadline, the further away it is from completion
Looking at
https://lolcow.wiki/wiki/Revolution_60_Release_Date_Failures it seems that the closest Wu got to releasing was the Steam debacle early February 2015. Leading up to this you can make the argument that there was progress, or work put into development.
- Was still releasing updates to her FB, (which is heavily curated to actual fans) and stated the game was in Final Testing
- We actually got to see new progress on the Typing of the Dead style 'gameplay'
- Wu did actual work to set up the Steam page
- Wu tried to a False Flag OP to drum up some press surrounding her which might have translated into a boost in Steam eyeballs.
But after the False Flag incident and the general Steam consensus that this game would be shovelware (Steam users have a good nose for recognizing shit and make no qualms warning others) I think Wu realizes around this time that releasing on Steam will be an unmitigated disaster, criticism that couldn't be construed as harassment.
After this, all shown progress has been all but superficial. Small lighting tweaks to otherwise unchanged scenes, minor updates to screenshots, changing the date on trailers, slightly changing the App Icon. To anyone with development knowledge, these are 10 minute edits.
The only concrete achievement Wu has it that she
is a game developer, no matter how shitty. But without a game, all that is left is hyperbole. At this time, what are Wu's options?
- Release the game, Steam disaster and the general consensus that Wu is a "Digital Homicide" grade developer. (Well at least she hasn't sued a critic... yet)
- Abandon R60 and start on another project. Which would involve giving up on the only original IP she has, an admission of failure and having to do actual work again to make something. Possible KS and Patreon backlash.
- Indefinite Development Hell. Always be making and breaking deadlines can work for years. Save face, still claim to be a game developer and make money from Patreon and the Speaking circuit. It's not like there's any major lost revenue from not having R60 on stores.
It's already been a year+. Duke Nukem Forever was what, 10 years?
