I have finally gathered enough patience to sit through an hour and a half of international relations experts on Twitch butchering the topic of the Russo-Ukrainian war. These Twitch panels are the worst of both worlds: they are neither informative nor entertaining. I especially liked the zoomer who was not even a teen but a kid when Euromaidan happened.
The way to make these discussions less oligophrenic would be to gatekeep access to them behind queries that are piss-easy for anybody with even the most cursory familiarity with Eastern European affairs to answer. ‘Name all the disputed territories in the post-Soviet region.’ ‘What is the capital of Ukraine?’ ‘When did the USSR dissolve?’ As it is, half of the people participating would answer ‘Atlanta’ if asked about the capital of Georgia and think ’white’ when they hear ‘Caucasian’.
And if entertainment is the goal, more people like Conspiracy Castle should be invited. If I must hear, ‘Is Russia not in NATO?’ I would rather it came from somebody trolling the panel and clowning around, not from somebody having the solemn mien of a foreign policy advisor.
The only panellists who understood the topic at all were a Hungarian guy, Adam Something, and a liberal war hawk, Kevin Castley. The latter even mentioned irredentism, which I did not expect to hear from a Twitch streamer.
And, of course, Dylan Burns once again knocked it out of the park when it came to representation: I have thoroughly enjoyed the ‘war bad’-tier contributions of the OnlyFans camwhore dickgirl Taftaj who constituted 50% of the ‘women’ on the panel.
