I don't think they changed their address in response to this. I think they just moved for different reasons later and simply haven't updated Barb on their new address.

I think this was before Bob.

I'd like to think this was before Bob! That poor guy. Nobody deserves to be cheated on when they're a 109 years old and just married.

now we know where chris got it from

I know right! He also has that creepy stare from his uncle Wayne.

I like Bob. I almost wish I would have called him in the Golden Era to ask about his time in Korea. He wasn't there for the Korean war: he was there before that in the late 1940s. From what I can gather he built infastructure in the ROK.

And yeah, GE paid for the research into the Patents so even though Bob's name was on them, the royalities went to GE. It's a pretty standard thing in industry and academia.

That musical cart looks badass. It's obvious Bob had a love for old music. Too bad his harpy of a wife stole that from him. Poor fucker tried his best. He should have been the nice old man on the street who lived alone instead of "Chris-Chan's Dad". Godspeed Bob, you had your problems but you seemed alright.

Well we finally know where the "simple plastic funnel" thing comes from.

I was interested about the blast furnace automation bit though. Those furnaces are most certainly long gone, but some research pointed me in the direction of one of US Steel's facilities outside Pittsburgh. Mainly the Dorthy 6 furnace in the Duquesne Works. It was built in 1963 and was the "most modern of it's kind" (i.e. automated). This would line up with the story, as that was around 22 years prior to the story's writing, which references the event taking place "20 years" ago. I'm going to make a guess that "Old Betsy" might just be a group of older men getting together and forgetting what the name actually was ("Whaddid they call 'er? 'Ol Betsy?' Ah yea that sounds right...")

Anyways, these two pictures came up in some further research.

Both General Electric control panels, from Dorothy 6, and the design would suggest a early 1960's construction. Sadly, US Steel shuttered that plant just two years after the article was written, and demolished it in 1988 after locals fought to save it.

If this is indeed the furnace Bob worked on, we can take this two ways:
Bob-lovers can enjoy that Bob helped contribute to an industry that built bridges, buildings, and other infrastructure we still use today.
Bob-haters can revel in the fact that Bob helped automate Pittsburgh's largest industry at the time, and probably cost people their jobs and helped contribute to the decline in the area.

Still quite interesting bit of history besides.

men simply need to be more careful before getting married in modern day, men have WAY more to lose in a marriage in todays world what with society changing the way that it is etc and things of that nature AHHHHHHH HIS MUSIC CART NOOOO BARB WHY DID YOU HAVE TO BURY IT IN THE HOARD THE MUSIC CART AHHHHHH!!!!

the stupid hoard. you cant even enjoy the things you have when you have a hoard because all your stuff gets buried and dirty being in a hoard. its not like barb goes and picks up some of the stuff in the hoard and uses it, it just lays there buried under other junk she also dont use no more and buries it with even more stuff,

almost similar to mole men, burying objects in the dirt, god damn mole men

Man, the fact that a guy with his smarts let himself get saddled with Barb and the retard is really depressing. I'd like to think that Bob is somewhere up in heaven, smiling down at us, smiling because he'll never see Barb and Chris again when they'll burn in hell for all eternity.

women getting divorces so frequently these days has lead to older men who were divorced by their wives ending up marrying women who dont have their best interests at heart. because of feminism, women think that it is "empowering" to get a divorce when they really dont need too. and their female friends call them "so brave" for sabotaging their marriage and getting divorced. GOD DAMN YOU FEMINISM!

Reading this makes me wonder even more why he divorced his first wife and why his kids hate him.

Actually this one of my favorite moments with Bob
He knew a lot about Jazz music. Unfortuantely the 2nd part to the marathon was taken down due to copyright. However, he drops the nbomb a few times in the next part according to the cwcki transcript "Although there were a multitude of regional and individual variations, Pre-1920 American negro piano music can in general be divided into two main categories. Ragtime, which was a relatively sophisticated music which included the charming, intricate and quite seriously intended work of a small school of Negro composers."

That's not "dropping the n-bomb." For a guy his age, "negro" was a pretty neutral term. Bob didn't say "them thar niggers sure did know how to play some jazz," even though that would've been pretty funny.

That's just time deciding that that is an offensive term. If anything, that was a somewhat respectful term. There's certainly nothing derogatory intended about it in the context of what Bob is saying. Godbear knows we'll all be deemed bigots in a hundred years so that people will feel better about themselves.

He'd also play the tranny card to get into hell thinking he could mingle with lesbians, only to be confronted with people like Buffalo Bill, Caitlyn Jenner, and Jeffrey Dahmer, instead.

:crocodile:

Good heavens! Can you imagine how terrified Buffalo Bill, Caitlyn Jenner, and Jeffery Dahmer would be?

The more I read about Bob, the more I genuinely believe that if Bob raised Chris on his own without any interference or involvement from Barb, Chris would actually be a somewhat normal human being with some minor flaws here and there. He would actually be a productive member of society who actually found success in his endeavors. I don't see Chris working in medicine or scientific fields like Bob or his half-siblings did, but I could legitimately see a stable version of Chris working as a cartoonist or a comic book writer/artist. He manages to actually create a character that is actually entertaining, unique and people actually like.

Chris could of grew up to be a well respected member of society despite having some obstacles that laid in his path. But that's only if one parent was involved and the other wasn't.

Pulling Chris out of the special autism school: Bob
Hiring friends for Chris: Bob
Putting Chris on the tugboat after he washed out of his first job: Bob
Blaming all the trolling on those gay Jews at the GAMe PLACe: Bob

I'm no Bob-log, but his fingerprints are all over some of the key bad parenting choices in Chris' life. He was an interesting guy, but not a great parent.
