Laws that require charities to disclose their finances and activities to the public endanger the lives of activists, Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors said at a recent event.

The embattled activist, who is facing renewed criticism following reports BLM Global Network Foundation, while under her control, purchased a $6 million Los Angeles mansion, said she gets triggered whenever she hears the term IRS Form 990, the document charities are required to file to the public every year disclosing their financial activities.

"It is such a trip now to hear the term '990,'" Cullors said Friday during an event at the Vashon Center for the Arts. "I'm, like, ugh. It's, like, triggering."

"I actually did not know what 990s were before all of this happened," Cullors said, an apparent reference to the Washington Examiner's reporting in January about BLM's lack of financial and leadership transparency that led multiple states, including California, to order the charity to cease raising funds until it discloses what it did with the $90 million it raised in 2020.

Cullors said activists suffer trauma and that their lives are put at risk when charities under their control are required to disclose publicly what they did with their tax-deductible donations.

"This doesn't seem safe for us, this 990 structure — this nonprofit system structure," Cullors said. "This is, like, deeply unsafe. This is being literally weaponized against us, against the people we work with."

Cullors said she's been approached by countless activists who are worried that they too will soon field requests from reporters demanding copies of their 990 forms, which charities are required by law to disclose to the public upon request.

"People's morale in an organization is so important. But if their organization and the people in it are being attacked and scrutinized at everything they do, that leads to deep burnout. that leads to deep, like, resistance and trauma," Cullors said.

Cullors, who left BLM without a leader after she resigned in May 2021 amid scrutiny of her personal real estate purchases, said media scrutiny of the charity is an "experiment," that, if successful, will be used to take down other black-led activist groups.

"They know what they're doing: how to create the infighting, how to create the distrust," she said. "We have to stop it before they do it. We have to shut it down. We have to be showing up against it."

Cullors did not return a request for comment.

The $6 million LA mansion BLM purchased in October 2020, just two weeks after the charity received a $66.5 million cash infusion from its former fiscal sponsor, was used in multiple videos on Cullors's personal YouTube channel, raising concerns from watchdog groups that BLM used nonprofit assets for the private benefit of its leaders.

Cullors disclosed in a phone call with reporters Monday that BLM's mansion was used as a "safe place" for her to stay for at least four nights amid an FBI investigation into a death threat made against her, NBC News reported.

“So we did use the campus as a haven, as a safe place. That derailed an announcement strategy," Cullors said in reference to the death threats. "Conditions changed, and that’s it.”

Well, if Cullors is allocating the funds appropriately, there's no need to be so reluctant over showing the receipts, is there? 🤔
There's a unique confluence of circumstances that would cause them to be freaking the fuck out like this. Even if you've pretty flagrantly done nothing, you can usually find an accountant somewhere that can sort things out after the fact and make things more or less legal. Penalties and repayments are almost certain, but nobody's going to prison. However, you have to have the funds to pay for those services. For as much as the IRS can fuck your day up, they're actually pretty reasonable people. You employed and out of prison is in their best interest. They save up all of that wrath to especially focus it on those that can't/won't pay. They bring extra zeal when someone complains to the news about this.

They were literally such niggers with their funds they blew through millions and didn't set aside like five figures for some nerd to keep them out of prison.

At the same time, part of me wonders if the Dems will use it as a blame-free means to get rid of BLM. These scandals might cause them to finally tip towards "outlived their usefulness." - "We thought this organization had all the right motivations, but look at how much they broke the law! Donate to this other newer hipper charity that just happens to use our ActBlue system as well!" Plenty of time for them to cook up another major 'charity' in time for 2024.
Won't they come back during the next election or even cop shooting?

I would imagine the DNC didn't tell them about having to report taxes OR they know they're frauds and want to do anything they can to get rid of them.

Literally every time I start thinking these people couldn't be any less sympathetic they totally blow my expectations out of the water.
They already ditched them and went them gone. After how the polls are going, these niggas are straight-up dead. Peeps from riots and shit back in the summer are still actually getting pushed into cells and shit.

It just keeps going. Dumb ass niggers never learn that the blue will chew you up and spit you out as soon as possible. These fat bitches running these money scams are going to get ass fucked in court later.
It's basic bitch Machiavellianism lol. Appoint a mad dog to attack your enemies and shut down dissent, then once you're secure in power make a big show of acting shocked about their behavior and claim you had no idea. After that you gut them to roaring applause and all of your loose ends are neatly tied up.

I think it's unspoken in many black communities that they want their spokespeople to throw bling around. Even at smaller black churches they get off on the pastor driving around in a new Cadillac. And it seems to be accepted that rulers of African nations are going to skim off "foreign aid" to build themselves a massive personal empire.
It's not at all accepted in those countries. Citizens and expats alike regularly complain about it. Candidates campaign on eliminating corruption, and gain support and notoriety that way.

What does end up happening is what happens in even developed countries, but without the general opulence or brains to effectively cover it up: they get swallowed up by a work culture so foreign to even their most honest sensibilities and some end up hoping (albeit half-heartedly) to die only after they leave office.

The mechanisms aren't even the same. I've heard many black Americans justify not giving money to the churches they attend on account of their not trusting the pastors (though, the whole point of the tithe is to give money to a class of people who would not make money any other way because they don't have any other job), but supposing that you're right, it could be seen as them banding together to paint themselves as having a hand in opulence.

You can't have that same presentation when the people for whom you voted are embezzeling money behind your backs.

Sadly I think Cullors is going to not only skate on this but will continue to be a successful grifter. Even if she does get in some trouble it won't affect her in the long run.

We're living in the age of the black woman. There will be no accountability for her or her ilk.

For the lulz aspect, I am now extremely curious where all the money went if she is saying she feels like people will murder her over it. :story:

I wouldn't be surprised if the IRS go after the leads of BLM. But the doomer in me wants to say someone will tell the IRS to knock that shit off unless they wanna end up in a body bag.

At this point, the IRS is the only weapon the left can use to create the illusion that they are shutting down and punishing Black Lives Matters given how their commie DAs won't prosecute them.

And this helps them rebrand BLM by removing the major players in the movement so they can replace them with new ones down the line once they coin a new name for them.

So basically they all treated the BLM movement as their own personal source of reparations and are now upset that they are being called out?

I remember calling it a scam due to all the Shaun King nonsense, and twitter helping him clean up his profile over night. People looked at me aghast that I'd suggest such a thing, stupid idiots.

Well no shit there’s no evidence that it’s been used. It’s just that people are posed that they have no idea what the millions to billions of dollars raised for Black Lives Matter™ are being used for other than gay little art projects and then you see Cullors and others giving tons of money to their friends and family’s organizations and getting book and TV deals for millions of dollars.

Yeah tthe IRS is very Triggering and should be abolished,,,,
