Only real issue I have with Karlach is she uses a lot of real world slang from the 2010s and 2020s which is incredibly jarring every time it happens because no other character does this.

Every other party member generally sticks to more appropriate fantasy vernacular making Karlach feel really put of place.

The more I play the less annoyed I am with the voices. I don't know, maybe I had to just get into it.

I still haven't gotten Karlach though.

Today in my game, we were in the cemetery and Tavitha taught a lil' kid some necromancy.
A guard bitched at her for what happened after.

Hey guys, I just figured out something that made me feel like Einstein. I was having trouble with carrying too many items but I figured out a fix. First I drank a elixir of hill giant strength to make me carry more, but it just simply did not allow me to carry enough. I can only carry 250 pounds after drinking it. I spent hours and hours on multiple days pick Pocketing gold and buying elixir of hill giant potions and then pickpocketing the gold back, I have like 80,000 gold and 80 bottles of elixir of hill giant potion but I knew something still wasn’t right. Then I found out about a spell called, Enhance ability. And select bulls strength. I got confused and thought I could only cast it on one person, but actually you can cast it on two people. You have to make them stand real close together. They walk around a little when they follow you so unhook them from the party so they stay still. With the left trigger they stop following you and stand still when you do that. It says that, Bard, Cleric, Druid, and sorcerer can use this spell. I considered changing one of my characters class to one of these then realized I didn’t have too. Shadowheart is already a cleric. I did respec her a little to get her dexterity up to 17 few months ago and now she misses a lot less with her crossbow but she’s a cleric already. She didn’t have the spell already but i was able to go to her cleric spells and was able to prepare spells and gave her the spell. My character I created was a bard, so I was suppose to have the spell too but didn’t already, so I attempted to prepare my spells too but got confused but it wouldn’t let me. Clerics can change their spells but barbs can’t? I had to speak to withers in camp and changed my class to bard to bard again and gave myself the spell enhance ability this time, I gave myself some more strength while I was in there too.

So now, I have all four of my characters drink a elixir of giant hill potion, then I have Laezel stand next to me, and use Shadowheart to cast enhance ability bull strength on me and laezel, and then I use my character to cast enhance ability on Shadowheart and Karlach. (Sometimes I switch Karlach out for Astarian.)

So now all four of my chapters can carry 500 pounds, by drinking elixir hill strength and then enhance ability spell. You can cast it on two people, and me and Shadowheart can cast it. Two people casting it on two people equals four. And it lasts until a long rest, where I can just do that again every time. Carrying 250 pounds seemed like I was carrying more but still not carrying enough. All four characters carrying 500 pounds is a lot better.

I had to share this tip because carrying too much can be really annoying and figuring out this complex process made me feel like Einstein.

Bro just how much vendor trash are you refusing to sell that you need literally the entire party to drink one of the most expensive/useful potions in the game just to carry it all?

I don’t even sell items anymore to vendors. I found that pick pocketing the gold from vendors is a lot more profitable than selling items to them. I pickpocket the vendors gold, then escape without notice, go back to camp, long rest, and steal their gold again. I do that at the Druid cove goblin camp the under dark guy and the hideout cave. I got like 80,000 gold from doing that. I use the smugglers ring and the thievery gloves and drink a invisibility potion beforehand too because there’s a guy standing right next to the guy in the under dark and the goblin outside has people around him too. And I make Shadowheart cast guidance on me too, makes it easier to pickpocket.

I have a ton of stuff in the storage chest in camp but I want to carry stuff on me too.

Is this some sort of strange challenge run? The best equipment and weapons are either found in the overworld or as quest rewards not bought. I can't fathom why you would ever need to carry around 80,000+ gold.

You know there's a storage chest in your camp right?
Maybe all the rope and extra shovels will come in handy.

Be careful. There's a boss in Act 2 who you'll find extremely difficult to deal with.
Here's the spoiler free weapon effect

That could be gotten around by sending the gold to camp, interacting with the boss, then retrieving the gold. Just gotta remember to get it back right away lest a moment pass without having ALL your valuables upon your person.
Never know what you might need, after all.

I wandered into one of the many tumblr discussions about how awful it is to be romancing Astarion and let him ascend, and I got to wondering why there aren't more things said about what happens if Shadowheart becomes a Dark Justiciar and you're romancing her. I mean, she... well just go look at 9:06 in this video.

I remember that boss and the retarded strategy I tried in order to beat it. I thought pick pocketing gold off it would break its armour but I was totally overthinking things.

In my latest run I chose to pay out and carried on, figure I'll be able to accumulate what I handed over.

Didn't watch the video because I'm looking to get around to playing through it at some point but what happens when Astarion and Shadowheart are allowed to ascend or become a Dark Justiciar, respectfully, is what I would consider a 'bad end' done well in visual novel terms and are very in-line with what the game sets up about Shar and her way of life, and the types of people that end up 'ascending' as Astarion does.

It boils down to the player character not mattering in their individual arcs by the end because their focuses are basically brought back to what they were at the start: Astarion wants power, and Shadowheart wants to become a Dark Justiciar. Thus, the player character becomes little more than a footnote or some fun along the way to what "really matters."

It sucks in the sense that I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy romancing these 'evil' characters but from a character perspective, I think it does a good job of highlighting that when getting romantically involved with either party, they have to sacrifice something or change some part of their lives or viewpoints in order to accept and fully nurture a more serious relationship, romantic or otherwise. They begin to shape their lives with the idea of having someone along for the ride. But with their initial goals, they're more than happy to go it alone and had originally planned to: Astarion considers joining your party as a sort of afterthought when first encountered ('I suppose there might be a benefit to this,' or something along those lines), and Shadowheart is sticking around primarily because she sees you as a means to an end.

I kind of see it as playing the game and never allowing these characters to view the player or a differing perspective as something on par with their original goals, and in that choice the consequence becomes those characters stagnating or reverting in their development as their initial ideas are seen as, once again, superior to all others.

That's part of what makes the game so good, the characters are very much their own "people" in a way. They have their own "lives" that don't always center around whatever the player character is doing.

It occurred to me today that Zevlor looks a bit like Neal Cassady (1926-1968) and I can't unsee it so I thought I'd share.
Makes me think that maybe after everything, Zevlor discovered drugs and went on a speed-fueled trip across Faerun.

So how is this game?

I heard it was good, picked it up the last day of summer sale, haven't started playing yet. I've played CRPGs for ages, and especially loved Baldur's Gate, BG2, and Tutu. Been over a decade since I played any of them, but I have fond memories.

But I've been reading about BG3 for the last couple days, and am starting to have a few misgivings:

1. I hear the level cap is 12; this seems excessively low to me, especially since I like to play as Sorcs or Multiclass, and CL12 is usually when those types of characters START to pick up speed and really become fun.

2. At a cursory glance, none of the premade companions look interesting to me, except maybe that one lesbian cleric who is apparently only a temporary hire. This wouldn't be so bad, except I also hear that the game makes it difficult, or impossible, to create custom companions; internet suggests that you can get "customizable" hirelings a little later in the game, but cannot customize their race / gender / backstory.

3. Minsc and Jaheira are back, which one would assume would make me happy, but... eh? Don't get me wrong, I loved Minsc, and nothing against Jaheira, but I don't really see how they'd fit into a game taking place a century + after the original, and really don't want some new "canon" to break the lore I had in my head for what happens after The Ward became a demigod.

4. Also very ambivalent about the bearfucking. I don't mind games letting you do crazy shit, in fact I love crazy game shit, the crazier the better. But when I hear "you get to fuck a bear", my first reaction isn't "oh wow you can crazy shit!", it's "what are the odds that you can fuck a bear, but CAN'T find a genuinely attractive woman" anywhere. Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic, but Tumblr users with corporate jobs have ruined so many games in recent years.

For obvious reasons, I don't trust Google, Steam reviews, or Reddit to give me an accurate rundown on BG3, and the refund window is closing soon. So for those of you who care enough to check the BG thread, what do you think? Is the game any good? Is it possible to make a custom party? Does the level cap get in the way? And is it a DEI-infested snoozefest, or is there something for everyone to enjoy, not just zoophile trannies?
