Eren: *literally genocides the entire world, wipes out millions upon millions of both plant, and animal species, utterly destroys countless cultures, histories, and technological advancements, and causes enough environmental damage to usher in the actual end of the world*

These Fags: I sleep.

Mikasa: *kills some batshit insane crazy cultists who support the above, and have already killed a bunch of innocent people only because she wants to stop the above*

These Fags: REAL SHIT
God, this series went off a cliff.

But you see my friend, Mikasa was killing honest god-loving patriots who just wanted to save their country, while Eren was killing some filthy mainlanders who all universally hate the country and would 100% kill everyone there (Of course ignoring that Eren pretty much brought it onto his country because he couldn't get laid and the world didn't look like Armin's storybook)
God, this series went off a cliff.
No it didn't, it became bad when the Cringevengers happened and were slaughtering innocent patriots.

Watching AoT for the last several episodes has been an increasingly masochistic experience, for lack of a better term (sounds way too extreme/melodramatic). The characters you liked turn into retards and scumbags, and the bad guys get framed as good guys. It's an interesting inversion, but it doesn't feel like it's well written enough to be convincing. The characters turned on a dime, it could've worked better if the transition was slower or a bit more justified.

Thinking about it, there's no way Isayama isn't trying to piss people off, it's clearly trolling of the highest order. I remember seeing some weird quote where he says he wanted to "hurt" his fans, so it seems intentional.

I can sit back and just watch the show do whatever, I don't get invested in fictional characters to the degree that I'll take something personally, so any direction this plays out in is fine. I have my criticism and preferences but it's still enjoyable, just in a sort of weird way. But still, fuck Gabbi. Such a stupid, obnoxious little Mary Sue cunt.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think anybody fucking likes Gabbi. I think Isayama knows it too, so he has her shoot that girl (forgot her name), blow Eren's head off, and shoot Floch. This latest episode just confirms to me that she's a literary tool designed to troll, she has no bearing on the actual direction of the story and exists solely for moments like those.

I've never seen an anime go off the rails quite like this before. The only other similar experience I have is Death Note. But at least when it had its timeskip, the ending came fairly soon. This shit just keeps dragging on and on and on.

Something to keep in mind is that it's already been nine years since AoT premiered. A lot of these nutty fans have probably been watching this anime since they were kids. I can't imagine what this experience would be like for them.

Death Note was just hot potato and angry fujoshis. This is something else.

I’m glad I stopped caring about AOT while waiting for Season 3 to come out (this was back before I started reading manga too), but generally speaking what pisses me off in situations like this isn’t necessarily investment in the characters but the authors wasting my time. Not just reading the story, but caring about it for real-life years because I was under the mistaken impression that they had a plan for the ending.

Gabi is a more divisive character overall since there are people who like her. But the only universal criticism even her fans agree on is her really stupid aimbot that Isayama put into her.

As for the story, Isayama is just a lazy hack and it is very evident with the timeskip that when he made a global conflict, the only places he'd bother to develop are just one city in a foreign country and vague statements about other countries. It became very rushed so he can get to his genocide plot fast by making every character that isn't a Yaeger into retards.

I pretty much stopped giving a shit about the manga after the time skip. We went from a horror, seinen with some shounen elements to whatever the fuck this thing became with time travel, genocide, godlike beings, WW2 themes, the cycle of oppressor and oppressed...... Which all then culminates in the giant explosion of shit that is the ending.

One of the biggest clusterfucks and disappointments I can remember reading. Especially with how much I liked pre-time skip.

Isayama would of really benefited by keeping things simple.

I think he would've also benefited by taking a break and having someone tard wrangle him during a theoretical break. Since like he never went on a break once during his run.

I think he did actually go on hiatus for like five months either before, during or right after the Serum Bowl, but I can't exactly remember.

Other than that, you are correct about him never stopping.

I think that there was potential after the time skip, probably do it where Eren and company were at the position the titans were at the start of the series. Only issue was that after a while, it just became a chess match over who’d get shifter powers. And by the time Eren began his “end it all” plan, I was already checked out.

All this talk about the Yeagerboos pitching a fit, and here I am just happy to finally see Magath's and Shadis's sacrifice make it to the anime.

But really tho, loling at the Yeagerboos crying over background characters that probably only got like a few minutes of screen time in the first two seasons or were hastily introduced in the later seasons. Still can't believe they unironically think that Eren and the Yeagerists are doing the right thing. They really should have learned from this Chad instead who HIT THE NAIL ON THE FUCKING HEAD ABOUT THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE SHIT.

As much as I absolutely hate Sasha's dad for throwing her under the bus and adopting her killer, he's right about this.

Also, I really think this line should've been said way earlier in the series. Having it said as it late as it was just feels like too little, too late.

Honestly, that line was probably something for the start of the series. Although, I think the stakes are too high for something like that. It’s pretty hard to discuss semantics when you’re dealing with the possible extinction as a species.

It's alright to hate him for it. I'm pretty sure some characters in-universe hate him for it too. But he did remain pretty true to his character. He treated orphans as if they were his very family, and even wanted to help refugees that came from the same society that ridiculed his and Sasha's rural lifestyle. Gabi, and pretty much Sasha for that matter, were children sent to war, and in Gabi's case brainwashed by Marleyan propaganda. Titans were no longer the enemy, and now sees that this has become a war of children fighting children. Could he have killed Gabi? Yes. But let's be honest, if he did then we'd be here complaining over him breaking character instead. In the grand scheme of things, killing Gabi wouldn't bring Sasha back. It'd just be another child killed from wandering too deep into the forest.

If the series started out as something other than giant naked cannibal retards doing giant naked cannibal retard things to people who weren't giant naked cannibal retards, it could have probably worked. It was a fight for survival against an enemy that couldn't be bargained or reasoned with so the line would have been a little jarring unless we had some kind of human antagonists closer to the beginning instead of having the Warriors be revealed later or maybe a civil war brewing behind the walls. I don't think the stakes were that high when the scene took place, though. It was after the attack of Marley and there was definitely some tension in the air as to what would happen next, sure. But at that time we didn't have the Rumbling or Marley's surprise assault just yet.

The Japanese VAs had a live panel today. Surprisingly, the topic of an AOE came up, and rather unsurprisingly, the Japanese don't like it.

Also, Eren's VA said this.

I have no doubt you'll put that Ellen into shape, Kaji. I'm just wondering if you'll be able to outdo Papenbrook. That guy might as well have been training his entire life for that moment.

Also, lmao AOE theorists on suicide watch.

They are really pissed Eren's VA enjoys the stuff he wants to do, and isn't super patriot hero man in real life.

Not to mention attributing Hitler quotes to their favorite character to look "deep"
