To be fair the people who idolized Eren and the whole genocide plan basically wanted the story to conform to their political beliefs about how nationalism is super important and ethnostates being great so they don't exactly care about Eren having more sane alternatives.

However the people who do like Eren and act like there is no other way are idiots because they always overlook the fact that Eren pretty much was the one who caused almost everything bad to happen in the timeskip especially when he helped Zeke get the 2nd most retarded character in the series to declare war on the island.
