Not to butt in, but yes. It is that poorly written. Mostly because the final few chapters of AoT are chaotic af, and most of the time it's not really clear what's exactly happening, but here's the scene in question from start to finish.

A key thing to remember here is that PATHs is also kind of going apeshit while all this was happening. It is a complete clusterfuck of confusing bullshit, and I'm still not sure what exactly is supposed to be going on, but if I had to guess I think it's supposed to be both PATHs fuckery, and Mikasa's schizo fantasy.

As for why Eren didn't do any of what you mentioned, he's an idiot. The guidebook literally states his intelligence is 3/10. He's just a dumbass, and that's all there really is to it. A dumbass, and poor writing.
To me it seemed like Eren was interrupting her mental breakdown/fantasy and telling her to forget about him, to do what from his perspective needs to be done. I don't see it as indicative of what would have happened if Mikasa answered differently before. Seems pretty separate.

Also, not sure if it's canon, but she's had other fantasies about Eren in Lost Girls. When she doesn't want to accept the fact that he's dead or going to die, she shuts down and retreats into hypotheticals about how she'd live with him. Or they're parallel universes where she finds a way to run away with him, idk.

That guidebook sounds interesting, and 3/10 intelligence explains a lot at least lmao

Gotta ask, did this flashback shit from the last episode also happen in the manga that way? Been watching this show with my girlfriend since S2 and we've pretty much have come to terms with the fact that it turned to shit, but we were specially confused about their decision to end Final Season Season 2 with a pointless flashback episode that didnt stablish anything we already didnt know.

It happened in the manga. It was in chapter 123 spliced with parts with 130

I remember someone responding to obvious bait about AoT being shit insisting that Eren chose to die instead of being with Mikasa and that he knew the entire time that his genocide plan would be stopped. I honestly hate time loop stories like this because at the end you have to ask "What was the point of me reading this?" What's the point of getting invested in characters and a story that peaks 30 chapters in, stagnates, and then shits itself while the MC and author just insist it was always going to end this way and you were the retard for having any kind of investment or hope. Your favorite characters die for nothing and there isn't anything enjoyable about the kind of despair and bitterness in AoT.
And I like depressing despair-filled shit. But Berserk alternates between despair and then hope all the time. Kaiji alternates between despair and hope. Goodnight Punpun alternates between despair and hope. These writers realize that constant pointless misery and hopelessness means you have no reason to keep readers motivated to continue. AoT does that through about half the story, and then just goes into full "nothing matters and everyone is dead" mode with nothing left to give you some kind of interest or hope. It just ends feeling empty and hollow, not in a "wow that was depressing but still well-done" way but an "I spent years reading this bullshit for nothing" way

You know, I originally had like a ten-paragraph essay typed up in response to this as per usual for this thread, but then I deleted it because I thought of something; why does this matter?

And I'm gonna just ask that in-regards to an AOE. Why does it matter? Let's say for the sake of argument that there is an AOE. What does that change?

The manga ending will have still happened. People will still know about it. It will still exist along with Eren's whiny incel face just like all the other stupid shit in the final arc that they always conveniently seem to forget. It doesn't make it go away. You can't erase it. It happened, and not even an AOE can change that.

Because they believe it will validated some super mega meta-story they have in their mind that many autists think about nowadays and the AOE will mean the manga ending was bad on purpose somehow just to show the anime timeline being the real one.

Read through the final chapters that have yet to be adapted for part 3 and I think the ending was fucking stupid and made no sense but I don't think 139.5 necessarily made it worse. For whatever reason, I interpreted the panels with Ymir consoling her children as Fritz bleeds out as a vision of what Ymir wanted with the hindsight of being trapped in the Paths for millennia, rather than some supremely retconned alternate timeline. At best, Isayama left that vague on purpose.

Yes, I know that makes no sense, but neither is loving your rapist/abuser/concubinator/the guy who killed your family and ruined your life.

Everytime I think about this series I laugh. Cringevengers. Ymir loving Fritz. Hange's meaningless sacrifice. The random ancient Titans. Eren being a tree and a bird. Gabi's entire character. Floch's entire arc. How everyone's IQ dropped 20 points. Levi's fate. Paradis being destroyed anyway. The meaningless Historia subplot. The implications Titans still exist.

It's just such a load of bullshit. Almost any of those moments would taint a series on their own. The entire last 40 chapters are madness in hindsight.

Isayama is truly a top tier retard or masterful troll.

I remember well before the Marley reveal I myself was hoping for some sort of weird far future thing where Titans were akin to a medical nanotechnology grey goo scenario going crazy, and Paradis was locked off to keep normal humanity safe from the apocalypse that ravaged the rest of the world. Then the rest of the series happened and the centipede from Sekiro(???) ended up being the big bad and everyone could Newtype mindmeld like it's Gundam(???) and I was like huh okay I kinda wish my fanfic had been real.

Changing the ending would be good, even if it's just enough to clarify details better. I don't expect major changes, but they would be ideal. If I could only pick one thing to omit it would be the Eldian genocide, it basically makes everything pointless.

Honestly the only thing I personally want changed with the ending is everyone forgiving Eren like he was their best friend and a good boy instead of an insanely retarded genocidal maniac.

I think the final chapter is where everyone can agree that changes are most needed (half of the anime needs to be reworked honestly), just for different reasons. I think the place the anime is at currently could still be partially salvaged.

Erase Eren's stupid suicide plan and the unnecessary Ymir shit (thereby no more "tHaNkS fOr BeCoMiNg a MaSs MuRdErEr" and no creepy decapitated kissing scene with Ymir smiling as she watches), then tone Eren down from a total lunatic to a mere extremist. Then from there just have the Cringevengers stop him and save the world like they do, but leave the fate of Paradis up for speculation. That would satisfy everyone a bit more.

Honestly, I’d prefer if this was just a dream that Eren was having at the start of the series.
I was genuinely worried that was a possibility but ultimately dismissed it. That's the only way I think they could piss people off more. I hate pointless stories, I'd rather have a bad one personally.
