Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

God dammit, a minor inconvenience happened in my life again. Can we please get rid of A&N? A&N killed my father, I come on this website to laugh at others and feel good about myself, but the A&N people laugh at me and give me bad stickies. They give me bad stickies!! me!!!

Oh what do you mean you got rid of my stickie-cummies? Gosh darn it, can we please get rid of A&N altogether? If *I* don't like it no one else should either.

Taking the 'horrifying' rating away from Tranny news megathread is cruel; TNM culture is different from the rest of a&n anyways though.

The reality is, there is no other. This is one community, one site, and all it has to its name is this community. Once the community gives up on it, there is no site. If the site's gone, nothing can even squarely take its place.

In almost every instance board rules were designed by myself with zero input based on how I wanted the board to function. Again, you think X, you assume X is true, you say X as if it's true.
 
I think people are missing the point in that "A&H is being punished" is explicitly the concern on Null's mind, because A&H is not supposed to be individualized from the site as a whole; it's not supposed to be its own community. The Kiwi Farms is just supposed to be the Kiwi Farms, not KiwiFarms/AH or KiwiFarms/BParlor, it's supposed to be continuous community all the way through, and his worry is that it's starting to splinter off into factions, which it is. I'd posit that it's impossible to avoid this as the Farms grows, because the larger that a community becomes, the less likely it is that you're going to fit everyone inside of the same tent, so I think the concern is valid, but I think balancing it against a community that's stretching upwards into the tens of thousands compared to the few hundred that it used to be is going to be exceedingly difficult, if not Sisyphean.

Just compare the total number of average users that you see every day now to the total number that the Farms saw five or six years ago, and you can imagine how much easier it was to keep all of the ducks in a row back when the website was small enough for everyone to not only be familiar with each other, but to run into each other all the time because the site really wasn't that big. Nowadays, the site's gotten so big that I can stumble across users who have been here for three or four years, and I'll have absolutely no idea who they are.

Ideally, A&H should be an ancillary interest for users to wander into as they see fit, but not their primary draw to the site because news aggregation and the discussion therein is and was never the point of the Farms to begin with, it just became an unavoidable side-effect because of the ban-happy nature of social media when it comes to truncating and excising anyone who tries to go against the grain.

I can certainly follow the logic, I just don't think it's going to be possible to maintain the 'small community' mindset as the Farms continues to stretch its way up into a userbase that routinely sees thousands of people active across the platform at any given time.

It says a lot that you focus on nonsensical rhetoric like that instead of what I actually said, and as far as "you don't know anything except what you know", what I said was what I know. Also what you know. Stuff you can read from this thread, even. You made a decision based on the whining of a loud minority like so many others you've ridiculed for doing the same. No amount of rhetorical maneuvering will change that fact.

But whatever. You're not the kind of person who changes their mind through discussion as it is so I'll go back to reading shit on the site that doesn't have to do with managerial decisions.
 
I really appreciate the amount of salt over having stickers reduced. The irony of these people simultaneously complaining about sticker complainers makes it extra tasty.

People should take a look at the unreadable garbage fire that is Discussion & Debate or FYAD over on Something Awful if you want to see how well forum users segregating themselves into their own little boards, never going anywhere else, and trying to chase off people who aren't regulars goes.

Nobody in AnH is trying to chase off anyone, that is pure nonsense.

That said, your comparison is apt, just not in the way you intend: SA's Debate and Discussion keeps trying to fight the dreaded dirtbag left insurrection in other subforum C-SPAM by getting its posters banned and their threads closed for daring to make fun of Democrats.

My humble request is to keep some of the neutral ratings like Horrifying, Islamic Content and Thunk Provoking.
