Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

I disagree. A lot of true and honest fans want to talk news & politics, if they could post in a&h without a bunch of idiots they would. Alternately, a bunch of spergs might get mad enough to pay null for the privilege of sperging in a&h. It is a win win situation. Either the board gets better, or the worst board funds the rest of the site.

This board has a huge problem. Many problems.

Sometimes people say stuff I disagree with.
Worse yet, sometimes people agree with them.

But that's not all.
Sometimes a person will say something I agree with. So far so good. But then, sometimes other people rate the comment I like as dumb.
Even more unacceptably, sometimes a different person will quote the thing I agree with then say why they disagree.

Worst of all, sometimes people agree with the person who disagrees with the person who said the thing I like!

If @Null can't or won't fix this glaring problem within 30 days A&H must be deleted.

A&H probably won't get deleted. It's better to keep it for containment purposes than have politics spill to every corner of KF, and believe me, that will happen if A&H bites the dust. Basically, it was too late to remove it the moment it was created.

Now imagine someone living in an apartment building across the street, with a balcony overlooking the street corner that the occupant visits every couple of hours for a smoke. The occupant loves those times, he looks forward to the show more than the smoke he thinks! He mentions this to his partner, not realising it is a mistake - afterwards it seems a day doesn't pass without her getting on him about giving up the cigarettes. Unbeknownst to her, he has tried already, and while intellectually he finds the street corner more nourishing, it has nothing on chemical dependence. The occupant is a strong man, he works with his hands, but his willpower is weak, a biproduct of having junkies for parents perhaps, or perhaps a weak will is the modern condition, fuelled by a world of instantaneous entertainment. Regardless, he can not give up the smokes, he thinks, not realising the truth in his heart - he will never be able to quit until he wants to quit. Not his girlfriend, not his parents, not his children, he alone has control over his desires. Without that truth, he is forced to lie - he starts pretending he has quit smoking, and now he is living a double life - by day he is the wonderful family man, attentive to his partner, respectful to his parents, and eternal to his children. But also by day, roughly every hour and a half to two hours, he is something else, something hidden, something less than a man, if only in nature, as the lies that have consumed his life begin to consume his very soul. Unable to buy cigarettes lest someone count his sins, he scrounges for butts in the gutters, desperate for a hit. He can no longer smoke on the balcony, lest someone see his sins, so he hides in the alley while the bum shouts at him about abortion. And finally, lest someone smell his sins, he steals a coat from the bum, to wear while he smokes. Looking and smelling like a bum, he is naturally counted as a bum, and dismissed by society, dismissed by his family, and finally, dismissed by God. "Why!?" he cries, to no one and to everyone "why was I imagined!?" But he receives no answer, and he never will.
