Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

It might be time to divide A&H into sub forums rather than just tagging posts with types and creating mega-threads. Some people may not want to jump into, say, the Brett Kavanaugh mega thread after it's a few hundred pages in and post something that's already been discussed. I think mega-threads may be leaving some people behind in that way. It's also harder to find things with everything condensed like this.

As for ratings I think it would be a cop-out to get rid of them. If it means that much to you-- if you can't take a bloody nose, you shouldn't be coming out to play. And maybe I'm just not reading the right threads, but I'm not seeing the dogpiling. It's a right leaning forum, but I've never seen anyone chased out. And if you don't like the talk about Jews and Muslims, you should probably get off the internet and hide in a hole somewhere. It's never been easy for Jews and it's never going to be, and Muslims aren't exactly trying to make it easy on themselves.

Honeslty, a lot of these complaints just reek of "my fee-fees are hurt" and there's an undertone of "I want to post but I'm afraid." If you want to post an article and discuss it, nobody's stopping you. I don't know what else to tell you.

They encourage dogpilling
Can any of these people complaining about "dogpiling" please define what it means in this context? And provide an example of their definition?

If it's effectively just "a bunch of people disagreeing with me", then they might as well permanently log off of Kiwi Farms.

If it's "a bunch of people hurling invective at me for my opinion", then they need to not only prove this happens, but that it is common enough to be a problem.

If it's something else, please explain and give examples.

It goes without saying that they also shouldn't have participated in any dogpiles themselves, else they would be massive hypocrites for complaining about dogpiles on A&H.

I hear quite frequently from some of the right leaning posters (in the video game/comics/board & card games areas) that the left doesn't know how to create, only co-op or destroy.

I'm starting to wonder if they weren't on to something.

Honestly some of the mega threads in A&H could be their own sub forums at the rate they grow.

You post the link to the article, the headline, and copy and paste the text. It's not hard. Someone will comment and engage with you; I promise. We can't help it.

I've always thought megathreads just create more problems. I get that you want to unclutter the thread list so there's not hundreds of Greta Thunberg threads (like this past week), but what eventually happens is that these threads create their own communities and discussion becomes impossible to follow. I don't know how you fix both problems though. Maybe any new news should be their own threads, but then eventually merged into the megathread? Just one idea.

Half the reason I've came to respect the right is cause of KF, I may not agree with what they are saying a fair bit of the time, but they tend to be helluva lot more entertaining about it and actually like to talk about why they feel the way they do about stuff.

Maybe a temporary subforum for the subject if there seems to be a lot of action on it? After the news dies down have a graveyard for the subforums so people can read the past stuff if they like.

This is silly. I am relatively new, relatively left and A & H is my favourite. I can handle the dumb ratings I get when I disagree with the outraged. I love the commentary here because regardless of the bias, it has the freest responses to current events. There is no place like it on the internet. Sure, there are a few Kool-Aid drinkers who can't have a conversation outside of their established narrative, but I just scroll on by.

In my last post I advocated for intellectual segregation. Here I advocate against political segregation. We should resist denigrating the beliefs of those with whom we disagree. We should practice civility.

We are all fucking adults. We can handle a little controversy.

I agree, but personally, I feel that this needs to be taken to a meta-level; plenty of people, myself included at times, have accused simple disagreement in A&H as being uncivil.

Honestly, that's my impression as well. There are few places left on the internet where you can comment about current events and have as much political diversity as you do on A&H. Best you could hope for, if you're of the far-right persuasion, is a /pol/ thread shitfest or a Daily Stormer Tor comment section circle jerk. Everywhere else you'll get instantly banned.

I wish there were more leftists on here, but that doesn't mean that they are right to make ridiculous demands like removing ratings and ending "dogpiling".

We dont want them here! Nazis are just disgusting socialist in disguise...

/pol/sters say that they are the reformed libertarians who were "redpilled" to believe that National Socialism is the best and only way to live life.

Actually now that I have thought about it more. There is one thing I would change in A&H.

I would go full authoritarian on faggots who constantly derail threads. I can stand the /pol/-lite tier opinions but the amount of "I know I'm derailing this thread but......" needs to fucking stop. Its fucking annoying as shit and I want it to end.

There should be a post limit for all users for A&H to cut down on bullshit and sperging. People post way too much bullshit in here and if they can only post perhaps 3 times a day they are gonna fight a lot less.

Why would you want to limit the amount of what people would say on there?

It's supposed to be a free message board where anyone can post what they want to say on there as long as it doesn't derail the thread or the discussion is on topic. Limiting the amount you could post on there can dissuade people from posting there altogether, particularly in threads where the news is ongoing.

They encourage dogpilling and discourage critical thinking and responses
If the problem with this board is that its discussion sucks, then we should encourage people to discuss and not just press a button and move on, especially if its a dissenting opinion.
So, you would rather have 10 people quote you, write a couple sentences about how what you said is dumb, and that you should feel bad for being this dumb, than receive 10 shiny new vector trashcans for you effort? On top of that, this will some how increase the quality of discourse in A&H?

I don't see how the ratings system does anything but cut down on low effort posts. It allows people to throw in their two cents without shitting up the thread with (insert rating converted to one-liner) posts.
